BGSU Optimal Aging Institute BGSU's Optimal Aging Institute helps adults ages 50-90+ explore many dimensions of wellness--because optimal aging goes beyond good health and longevity.

Keep up to date with aging issues, programs of BGSU's Optimal Aging Institute, BGSU research involving older adults, BGSU's Gerontology Programs, and information about community services and programs for older adults. We especially focus on the seven dimensions of wellness--physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, cultural, and occupational--all of which helps us develop resiliency as we age optimally. Are you looking for a way to acknowledge the caregivers who reside or work in Wood County, Ohio? Then we have an opportunity for you. The Golden Care awards is an annual event that celebrates National Caregivers Month during the month of November. Community members and business/organizations can help us to acknowledge these individuals by nominating them beginning on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 and final entries taking place on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Nominations are for community caregivers who assist their parents, spouses, neighbors and/or friends as well as businesses who hire caregivers in the medical role, supportive role or therapeutic role. Businesses and community members can assist us by completing a nomination form prior to the October deadline.

We are getting reports of a phone scam involving individuals falsely claiming to represent the Golden Buckeye program. They are trying to get personal information, including social security numbers.

These calls are NOT from the Ohio Department of Aging.

The Golden Buckeye program will never call, text, or email to ask for personal or financial information.
