WKUPD escorted members of the Engineering department who made history by winning the Concrete Canoe Competition at the 2026 ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championships held at Fairmont State University . This marks first ever society-wide national title.

🏆 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! 🏆

The WKU ASCE Concrete Canoe Team has won the 2026 ASCE Concrete Canoe National Championship!

This year’s canoe, the USS Alliance, celebrates the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States of America—and the students represented WKU with excellence in every part of the competition.

This historic victory marks the first national championship in the history of WKU’s Concrete Canoe program and continues an incredible five-year run of top-five national finishes:

Madison Gardner, a senior in computer science, has been awarded a ThinkSwiss Research Scholarship to conduct AI and robotics research at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) in Switzerland.
