The Digital Arts division at Bowling Green State University offers advanced study and the development of professional artistic expression in Digital Imaging, Interactive Multimedia, Digital Video, 3D Modeling and Animation, and Hybrid Media Forms including Virtual Reality and Gaming, Architectural Projection Mapping, 3D printing, Web App Development and Interactive Installation Art. We have a small, intimate graduate program (currently 7 students within a larger art cohort) which allows for customized coursework and is complimented by a large undergraduate program. All supported graduate students are provided with studio space and computers.
Several full and partial tuition Graduate Assistantships are available. Assistantships include teaching (second year), technical and facility support, and the opportunity to work in our professional large-format printing studio.
Our laboratories are housed in the newly built Wolfe Center for the Arts and includes three state-of-the-art digital studio classrooms: a 20-seat Mac Pro OSX lab, a 20-seat HP (Windows 7) lab, and an editing lab with 20 MacPro video editing workstations. The School of Art hosts the Media Cage and Print Lab (MCaP), which has high-dynamic range wide format printers capable of printing on a wide variety of media, high-resolution scanners, and 3D printing, in addition to our inventory of high-end digital a/v equipment for student checkout.
Software includes the latest versions of: Autodesk Maya and Mudbox, The Foundry Collection (Nuke, Mari, Modo), Zbrush, Unity, the full Adobe Master Collection, Painter, Final Cut Pro, ToonBoom, Dragon Stop Motion, and various other software packages.
Equipment is available for checkout in the MCaP including: HD and other video camcorders, light kits, microphones, Canon 5D mark ii and other DSLR cameras, Wacom tablets, digital audio recorders, Arduino kits, and many other items.
The Digital Arts Division is within the School of Art at Bowling Green State University, and offers an open, collaborative curriculum and excellent gallery and visiting artist programs. Several cross-disciplinary collaborative opportunities exist with Computer Science, the College of Musical Arts, Telecommunications, Department of Theatre and Film, and Dance. The Digital Arts program, ranked 6th in the Midwest and in the top 50 nationally by Animation Career Review, is also an ACM SIGGRAPH Student Chapter and participates in national conferences and festivals.
