EQUH 253 Course: Colt Starting Fall 2021
EQUH 256 Course: Developing Young Horse Course Spring 2022

The 253 course will help student learn how to safely and effectively start a colt through soft feel methods of horsemanship. The focus of the 256 course is going to be on the art of fine tuning the student’s horsemanship and training techniques/methods, as well as developing a deep understanding equine behavior. The course will also include training methods of how to finish a horse. My goal as the instructor is for students to develop a ‘true feel’ of what they are training for. I will expose students to riding finished horses so that they then can get on a green horse or colt and know what they are training for. Students are welcome to use their own horse, but must be improved by instructor as a fit for the course, however we are also looking to community members who would be interested in providing a horse to training and finishing work put on their horse over the spring semester. Cost is $250 a month for board (includes farrier work by Diego Almeida the new instructor at the farrier school) although you certainly can hire different farrier at your own expense. I am working on putting together a detailed list of options and boarding contract. Boarding will be at the Bob Miller Pavillion. MSU will accept a limited number of donated horses to the program as well, should they be a fit. Please reach out to me if you are interested in providing a horse. Tryouts will be spring 2022 semester at Bob Miller Pavillion for the fall of 2022 course. Horses/Tack will be provided, however it is recommended student brings their own tack so that it can be assessed as well.

C**t starting is BACK!

We are excited to get this year started with the return of our c**t starting classes. Students are working hard to prepare for first rides - checking off first sits, ground driving, hobbling, carrying a bit, following a feel, and brushing up on groundwork. Stay tuned for updates on these MSU-bred, born, and raised c**ts this year!

Last but not least...our 11th foal of the year is a c**t by Ross Creek Diablo out of Ross Creek Candy.

Affectionately known as "Rory", he joined us on July 3rd under the lights of the aurora borealis.

That's a wrap on foaling season! Thanks for tagging along - we can't wait to see what the future holds for this great crop of foals!

Looking for a great way to keep your horse legged up this winter?
We have a great opportunity to lease your horse for the season! Throughout the winter, your horse will receive consistent exercise, excellent care, and plenty of attention from our students. By May, they'll head home slicked out, in shape, and ready to hit the ground running for summer.
Every horse is treated like one of our own and receives routine care throughout the winter.
We offer lease oppurtunities or gratefully accept tax-deductible horse donations.
