Montana Team Nutrition Cultivating healthy Montana children and communities by shaping lifelong positive food and physical activity habits.

Montana Team Nutrition Program works in close collaboration with the Office of Public Instruction School Nutrition Programs, and is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Team Nutrition Training Grant Program. The USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer. With Montana Team Nutrition being within the Department of Health and Human Development at Montana State University, collaboration with faculty especially the Food and Health Lab, and MSU Extension Nutrition Education Programs naturally occurs and provides a strong foundation for active partnerships to maximize resources and strengthen research. This month’s Montana Harvest of The Month is Apples! Did you know that no apple seed will produce the same variety as the apple it came from? That means that every apple seed will grow a tree that will produce a brand-new type of apple! The only way to grow the same variety is by taking a branch from one tree and attaching it to the roots of another apple tree; this process is called grafting. Check out this incredible “Look where our food comes from” board in the Hobson School lunchroom led by Devon Johnson, the School Food Service Director 🗺️

What a fun way to help students see the connection between Montana producers and their plates! 🥩🥕🍯🥚

Devon is serving up Montana foods including beef and local eggs to fresh produce, honey, pasta, dairy products, and more. See a sample of their inspiring menu!

A Fresh Start to the School Year at Manhattan School District! 🍎

Manhattan School District # 3 is "spicing" up school meals this school year with a new condiment station that gives students more choices and the opportunity to customize their meals! 🧂🌿

New from-scratch recipes, including tater tot casserole, fresh tomato soup, and more have already been enjoyed this year! 🍲

The district’s continued efforts to enhance school meals were supported through training provided by the School Meals Support Program.

We’re excited to see these changes in action and look forward to a great—and delicious—school year ahead! 🥪🍽️

This October, join schools, early care and education sites, organizations, farmers, families, and communities across Montana as we CRUNCH into local foods to celebrate , Montana farmers and producers, and nutritious foods!

Wolf Creek school students enjoyed a culinary class making homemade bison tamale pie and blueberry cornbread! Something (the lack of leftovers) tells us these recipes are going to be added to their regular menu rotation! 🫐🍅

The kids also participated in Food Education class, learning about the food pyramid by creating their own 'pyramid silly faces' for snacks🌶️🥚🫛
