Today, Bay Mills Community College stands together in orange.

September 30th is Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Our staff wear orange today to honor the survivors of residential schools, their families, and the children who never returned home.

This movement was inspired by Phyllis Webstad, a Northern Secwépemc woman whose new orange shirt was taken from her on her first day of residential school at just six years old. It symbolizes the loss of culture, identity, and dignity experienced by Indigenous children, and serves as a commitment to the belief that Every Child Matters.

As an institution rooted in community, we recognize the importance of learning from this history and continuing the work of reconciliation. We wear orange today to listen, to learn, and to honor the resilience of Indigenous peoples.
