UNDERGRADUATE THESIS RECRUITING INTERVIEWEES FOR A STUDY OF EMERGING PROFESSIONALS WITH DISABILITIES

Senior Sociology major Serena Blackburn writes:

My name is Serena Blackburn, I am a Sociology major at SUNY Brockport and completing an honors thesis project about how emerging professionals with disabilities experience the transition from student to professional. In particular, I am interested in how people looking to find their first post-graduation job or advance in their field perceive and experience the process of seeking accommodations.

To answer these questions, I am recruiting volunteers to participate in an interview (about one hour long) who:

• consider themselves disabled
• holds a bachelor’s degree or higher (or is within a calendar year of completing one)
• or are looking to advance within their place of work concerning position and/or career path.

I anticipate that most interviews will be conducted over Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or a similar application, but we can choose a different form of communication if needed. I am legally blind, and it is not easy for me to use primarily visual mediums.

No identifying information about interviewees will be recorded in my files or included in my writing. I will ask interviewee’s permission to record the interviews to facilitate transcription, but I am prepared to only take notes for conversations with any interviewee who does not want to be recorded.

If you’re willing to participate or have questions about the study, please get in touch with me at [email protected] or (585) 991-8576. I am conducting interviews until Monday, May 24.
