The 2026 International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference was held in Orlando. Northeastern State University faculty were among 18,000 delegates from 121 countries in attendance. More than 200 educational sessions were offered in subjects ranging from Officer Mental Health to Legal Briefs on the latest court cases affecting law enforcement. United States Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel gave separate keynote lectures on national security and the future of law enforcement. Artificial Intelligence and Drone Technology took center stage in the Expo hall this year. NSU faculty now have the cutting edge information to ensure our students are work ready for tomorrow’s challenges.

Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Deputy Director, Brian Surber, conducted a law enforcement continuing education session for CLEET credit at the Northeastern State University/BA Center for Policing Excellence. Law enforcement executives from across the state were given an in-depth view of ethical and legal responsibilities of law enforcement officers today. Great session that was very informative. Just one example of the on-going commitment to public safety education by Northeastern State University.

NSU grant expands access to affordable childcare at Little Rowdy Childcare Center

NSU has received a five-year Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant through the U.S. Department of Education to make childcare more affordable for eligible student-parents and expand services at the Little Rowdy Childcare Center.

“For many parents, earning a degree means balancing their education with the responsibility of caring for their families,” said NSU President Rodney Hanley. “Affordable, reliable childcare can help ease that burden and give student-parents a greater opportunity to continue their education. We want students to know that becoming a parent does not mean they have to put their educational goals aside.”

A big thanks to Broken Arrow Public Schools Director of Security Jeff Martin, Police Sergeant (ret.), for conducting a recorded session for Northeastern State University Criminal Justice students on the evolution of School Safety over the last 30 years. Director Martin has worked in school security for over three decades and has seen every type of technological advancement used to keep our students safe. NSU students will gain insider knowledge on the latest cutting-edge investments the Broken Arrow District is making to meet tomorrow's challenges. As a parent whose children attended Broken Arrow Schools, I wanted to express my gratitude for Director Martin's dedication to keeping our children safe.

Professor Alayna Farris invited Captain Josh McCoy from the Broken Arrow Police Department to be a guest lecturer for her Criminal Law class at Northeastern State University. Students had the opportunity to hear about real-world experiences from a professional working in the field.
