Hannah & Whiskey have an important announcement!

is just ONE WEEK AWAY! 🎉 And these two want to remind you that every gift makes a difference—big, small, or somewhere in between!

Mark your calendars for September 10 and join Hannah, Whiskey, and the rest of us in showing some love for SDSU and the PPVM! 💙💛

Because when it comes to supporting our students and the future of veterinary medicine… every little bit counts! 🐾

Our first-year students recently learned the fundamentals of cardiac and respiratory auscultation. They practiced how to accurately calculate heart and respiratory rates and how to document and describe their findings using proper medical terminology.

Students also learned how to identify and evaluate heart murmurs and arrhythmias, as well as recognize and interpret a variety of lung sounds. The session included discussion on how to assess the entire respiratory tract and connect auscultation findings to overall patient evaluation.

Some of our second-year students recently attended the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) Conference, where they had the opportunity to learn from veterinarians and industry professionals about a wide range of clinical and production topics.

From obstructive urolithiasis in goats and BRD (pneumonia) pharmacology to building confidence in surgery when things don’t go exactly as planned, students gained valuable insight into the challenges and rewards of clinical practice. They also explored production-focused topics, including bedding types and their effects on udder health, effective communication with cowboys and riding pens at feedlots, and managing late mortalities in feedlots.

Each session provided valuable perspectives on bovine and mixed animal practice and helped prepare our students for their future careers as veterinarians!

We’re also incredibly proud to celebrate former PPVM students Kaden Eisenbraun, Robert Feiock, and Rebecca Dorn, who each received scholarships at the AABP Conference!

The students had a purr-fect opportunity to practice their physical exam skills on cats of all ages, including the adorable bottle babies, at the Brookings Regional Humane Society! 🐱🩺

The cats were incredibly patient and cooperative with the students. Of course, everyone received plenty of treats for being such good participants!

We’re grateful to the Brookings Regional Humane Society for helping our students gain valuable hands-on experience while giving these sweet cats lots of love and attention!
