Our very own Raven Precision Agriculture Center has been recognized by the South Dakota chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

One of the most recent buildings on campus houses the CAFE Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering and the Department of Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant Sciences.

This building has been made possible with the support of SDSU stakeholders, industry partners and legislative leaders.

Students are offered hands-on learning opportunities with wet labs, industrial research spaces and specialized facilities for a dynamometer bay and quarter-scale tractor lab.

Funding awarded by the South Dakota Specialty Crop Block Grant Program is supporting a 3-year South Dakota-wide foliar disease survey of cucurbits (cucumber, cantaloupe, watermelon, pumpkins, squash, etc.) 🥒🍉🍈

The SDSU Specialty Crops Pathology lab, led by Dr. Sean Toporek and graduate research assistant Janani Perera, is looking to connect with farmers who plan to grow cucurbits in 2023, 2024 or 2025.

The lab would then schedule a farm visit between August and October to survey and collect up to 40 leaves from mature cucurbit plants. All findings will be reported back to farmers free of charge, with all state-wide data published without farmer identifying information.

All administrative offices and classes at will be closed from Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 10 p.m. until a limited reopening of campus at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23. There will be no classes Wednesday or Thursday due to wintry weather in the region. Classes will resume on Friday, Feb. 24. Stay warm and safe, Jackrabbits! ❄️

Congratulations to Department Head, Dr. Wright!⭐️

David Wright was recently named the Maynard A. Klingbeil Endowed Department Head and Professor of Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant Science.🌱 He is the university’s first faculty member to serve in the newly endowed position.

“Certainly, it is an honor to carry Maynard’s name forward and continue his legacy in gaining new knowledge,” said Wright. “The endowment provides financial means for me to continue to support the faculty and students in our department and to continue Maynard’s vision of crop performance."🌽
