You're invited to NHCC's premiere of Safe Outdoors, a short documentary, featuring NHCC students, produced by BairStories, tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1st from 5:30 to 8:00pm in Helling Hall at NHCC.

Safe Outdoors follows Derrell, a 19-year-old an aspiring teacher, raised in a household where safety means staying close to home. He takes his first real trip into the wild and discovers the adventure he’s been searching for at the Dream Big 2.0 outdoor summit. This film looks at what access to nature means when it has never been available to you and what becomes possible when it finally is.

We can't wait to see you tomorrow at the premiere!

Going to the Minnesota State Fair this weekend? Stop by the Fine Arts Building to view the award-winning artwork selected in honor of beloved NHCC art faculty members, Lance Kiland, Joseph Gazzuolo, and Frank Schreiber.

NHCC Fine Arts faculty, Gina Dabrowski and local artist Kathleen Kvern, selected three artworks to receive an NHCC award, highlighting the types of art taught in our art department.

This summer, NHCC students, Danista Kannah and Kenny Sacks headed to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for a highly competitive biology fellowship. We followed up with them to see how the summer program went!

Danista commented, "My favorite part was when I hit my first stumbling block after a series of successful experiments. Instead of just repeating that procedure, my mentor guided me through troubleshooting. I carefully learned to question every step leading up to my results. That experience taught me that scientific thinking begins long before you reach your final results and that a failed experiment is not the end but the beginning of asking better questions.

This summer fellowship has strengthened my appreciation for the saying that science is not done alone. I get to experience and enjoy the support, guidance, and honest feedback from the program directors, my PI, mentor, and fellow participants.

This program has made me more confident of thriving and succeeding in a fast-paced research environment. And it has solidified my career considerations in research."

We're so proud of you both and we can't wait to see what you do this semester!
