Over 150 students at Machon Lemaan Yilmedu took a series of tests which took place over several days and were given by Rabbi Dovid Refael Banon, member of the Beis Din in Montreal and Dayan of the Chabad community there.

The tests were administered to the students of a number of study tracks, some who were studying Semicha - Issur v'Heter, Hilchos Shabbos, Orach Chaim and Shechita. The participants who live in Crown Heights took the test in Lemaan Yilmedu's learning center, while those students who don't live in the area participated via Zoom. There was also a separate test for the semicha program for bachurim.

This test follows previous tests given by the rabbanim who are members of the semicha committee: Rabbi Yosef Yeshaya Braun, Mara d'Asra and member of the Beis Din Tzedek of Crown Heights; Rabbi Gedalia Oberlander, rav of the Chabad community in Monsey; and Rabbi Gavriel Zinner, author of Nitei Gavriel.

We at the Machon would like to express our great satisfaction with the results and wish to remind all that registration is now open for next year with no fewer than ten different learning programs, with tracks for balabatim and shluchim/rabbanim. Whoever is interested in learning halacha in an organized way, can find the course that's right for him.

During the visit of Chief Rabbi Dovid Lau in the United States, he attended a halachic tour at the Mei Menachem mikva in Crown Heights, which was part of a course on mikvaos for shluchim.

The tour followed nine months of study of the Shulchan Aruch in a weekly shiur given by Rabbi Shimon Gruen and Rabbi Sholom Ber Shuchat, an expert on the laws of mikavos.

Rabbi Moshe Pinson welcomed the chief rabbi who was greatly impressed by the beauty and hiddur of the mikva, and this was followed by a tour of the mikva with Rabbi Shuchat showing how the rainwater is collected, the bor ha'tevila, etc.

The chief rabbi spoke about the importance of checking the rainwater reservoir. He shared his experiences in checking mikvaos in Eretz Yisrael and around the world, and then went on to describe halachic situations which every shliach who has a mikva needs to pay attention to, in order to preserve the kashrus of the mikva.

Registration for the next course on Mikvaos has opened.

During Chief Rabbi Dovid Lau's visit to the United States, he participated in a Yom Iyun for shluchim on the subject of Siddur Chuppa v'Kiddushin. It was hosted by Machon Lemaan Yilmedu in their Crown Heights learning center.

The Yom Iyun was part of a course on Chuppa v'Kiddushin for shluchim, after nine months of study in the Shulchan Aruch with a weekly shiur given by Rabbi Mordechai Farkash, author of Seder Chuppa v'Kiddushin who began the Yom Iyun with a practical shiur on the laws of writing a kesuba.

Then, the participants heard two practical shiurim given by Rabbi Pinchas Altheus of Cholon, who is known as an expert on Chuppa v'Kiddushin. He explained, step by step, how to write a kesuba and the laws of the chuppa, emphasizing Chuppa v'Kiddushin for mekuravim who are not religious.

Rabbi Lau, who delivered the keynote address, combined halachic emphases in arranging Chuppa v'Kiddushin, and guidance for how to properly present the demands of halacha in an appealing way, so that a bride and groom who are not religious will be happy to have a Chuppa v'Kiddushin according to halacha.

At the end of the course, the participants will be given a certificate signed by the distinguished rabbanim, members of the semicha committee of Lemaan Yilmedu, a certificate recognized by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.

Registration for the next course on Chuppa v'Kiddushin has opened.

For many in smaller communities, Taharas Hamishpacha presents many challenges, a key issue being the lack of a qualified Rov to rule on practical questions. However, a way to obtain the necessary training and expertise to pasken these shaylos was never available beyond the largest Jewish communities.

Finally, Lemaan Yilmedu has created a program to cover every aspect of Hilchos Taharah with a focus on practical psak and shimush, taught by Crown Heights Rov, Rabbi Tuvia Kasimov, a well-known expert in this field and author of the noted sefer Divrei Tohar.

The program will prove especially important to Shluchim who are often the only source of Halachic guidance in their communities, but most Shluchim have never had the opportunity to delve into Hilchos Taharah in a way that would allow them to issue practical rulings. In many areas, community members must overnight shaylos to another Rov, often causing delays or even getting lost in the mail.

"I joined a Lemman Yilmedu class in Shevat, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it." Says Rabbi Moshe Gourarie, Shliach in Toms River, NJ and a participant of the Hilchos Niddah course. "Every Tuesday night is like a mini-vacation, when I put everything else aside and delve into learning Halacha. It's a Kevius Bizman and a Kevius B'nefesh.

"Rabbi Kasimov's knowledge is extensive, his Shiurim and presentation are excellent, and his focus on the practical and Halacha L'maaseh makes it all relevant and enjoyable.

"I would encourage any Shliach that wants to expand his knowledge in Torah and Halacha, to utilize this incredible resource, where you could learn from the comfort of your office, with professional materials and outstanding Shiurim. This is the opportunity you have been waiting for."

The course organizers estimate that it will take approximately a year-and-a-half for the cohort to complete the text-based segment of the course, followed by practical shimush on one’s own schedule and availability.

Participants will schedule in-person sessions with Rabbi Kasimov when they are visiting New York to complete their training in paskening maros.

In addition to the halachos studies, there will also be a series of 10 practical lectures on how to apply them to real-life scenarios from leading Rabbonim in the field and other experts.

Start date: 23 Tammuz, July 12

A special meeting took place yesterday (Tuesday) in the offices of the Badatz of Crown Heights, with Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Dovid Lau, who came on a trip to strengthen the learning of halacha, and to attend an array of events at Machon Lemaan Yilmedu in the US. He began by meeting the Mara d'Asra and Badatz member, Rabbi Yosef Yeshaya Braun.

Rabbi Braun welcomed Rabbi Lau and connected the inyan of rabbanus with the parsha, while telling about the Rebbe's great involvement with founding the Badatz of Crown Heights, and how the Rebbe established that rabbanim be chosen in elections by the residents of the community. He also referred to what the Rebbe said in yechidus for the chief rabbis about a halachic matter that they raised.

Also in attendance were the maggidei shiurim of Machon Lemaan Yilmedu. The director, Rabbi Chaim Yisroel Wilhelm briefly described the programs of Lemaan Yilmedu, from Semicha-Issur v'Heter to the in-depth study of posek b'Hilchos Nidda. Rabbi Lau was greatly impressed.

At the end of the meeting, Rabbi Braun thanked the chief rabbi for the visit and wished him long years in his position and that we merit to all meet together in Yerushalayim with the true and complete Geula.

From Farm to Table: Become a Shochet in one year with Lemaan Yilmedu

From the Hilchos Shechita to knife-sharpening technique and hands-on instruction, master Shechita in one year with full certification and training to make you an expert Shochet. Full Story

Whether you want to learn Shechita to become a professional, career Shochet or you live in Shlichus in a remote part of the world and need to supply your family and community with fresh, kosher meat, this course is for you.

The theory and practice of Shechita has always been difficult to master in an organized fashion. With Lemaan Yilmedu’s course, gone are the days of cornering the local Shochet in Shul and begging him to take you on as his student. Now you’ll learn all the relevant halachos and practical techniques under one teacher, with a clear roadmap to success.

“Under the guidance of Rabbi Chezy Posner, I had the privilege of learning the Halachos and skills of shechita and shtelling the chalef.” Says Kasriel Shemtov, a former participant of the Shechita course. “Throughout this year, I developed a real appreciation for what I initially saw (as) more of the technical skill of shechting and shteling a chalef.

"As we delved into the construction of our own chalef and explored various aspects of shechita, I realized how deeply connected ruchniusdiker ideas are to every detail, encompassing Halacha, Chassidus, and the teachings of our Rabbeim . Even the choice of knife and sharpening method, following the Alter Rebbe's sh*tah and the Frierdiker Rebbe's requirements for sharpening, highlighted the treasure and significance of having a Lubavitch shechita and it showed the reason behind the necessity of a shoichet who is a yiray shomaim. Previously, we knew what was required, but now we truly comprehend the underlying purpose. Thank you!”

The Shechita course - as with all of the Lemaan Yilmedu courses - consists of a balanced curriculum containing live lectures, independent learning and hands-on training.

After becoming proficient in the theory of Shechita, you will spend hours in the slaughterhouse with your teacher who will patiently teach you the method and best practices of Shechita.

He will guide you all the way through until you receive Hodaah and Kabbalah from Rabbi Raphael Dovid Banon, veteran Shochet and member of the Montreal Beis Din.

Join our new semester to become an expert in Hilchos Shechita, graduating with a sense of achievement, a sense of accomplishment, and a sense of confidence.

Semester begins: 17 Elul, September 3rd.

The weddings of many chassanim and kallos who became engaged recently and were unable to get married during Sefira, will soon commence with the approach of Shavuos. At Machon Lemaan Yilmedu the days of sefira were used by dozens of chassanim who participated in the special program for chassanim that prepares them for the wedding and beyond, establishing a Jewish home.

The program was held for four days in a row in the course of which the chassanim learned everything they need to know, starting with Hilchos Taharas Ha'Mishpacha which was taught by Rabbi Avrohom Hirsch Levin. The chassanim also heard lectures and shiurim on the topics of shalom bayis, relationships, etc.

Among the rabbanim giving shiurim and lectures were Rabbi Sholom Ber Chaikin of Cleveland, who has been guiding chassanim for decades, Rabbi Mordechai Farkash, author of Seder Chuppa V'Kiddushin, and Rabbi Tuvia Kasimov of the Beis Horaah of Crown Heights.

Rabbi Kasimov says that the success of the program speaks for itself and this is seen when he meets chassanim after they marry when questions come up. "Those who participated in Lemaan Yilmedu's program are well-versed in the halacha and were prepared well for the wedding.

Dozens of shluchim participated this week in the first meeting of the "Posek in Hilchos Tahara" course, given by Machon Limud Halacha Lemaan Yilmedu. Over a year and a half, they will learn Hilchos Nidda and do shimush in practical questions of hilchos taharas ha'mishpacha.

The director of the Machon, Rabbi Chaim Yisraol Wilhelm, began the meeting by speaking briefly about his father, Rabbi Zushe Wilhelm a'h's vision to make the world of halacha accessible to all, with an emphasis on learning practical halacha to know what to do.

The maggid shiur, Rabbi Tuvia Kasimov, moreh tzedek in the Beis Horaah in Crown Heights, spoke briefly about the importance of learning from the Shulchan Aruch and not sufficing with books of summaries etc. He then went straight to a deep shiur on the topic of harchakos, starting with the Tur and Beis Yosef, The Shulchan Aruch, and then practical questions that were posed to him and that appear in the works of Acharonim.

The hanhala of the Machon says that considering the success with the first class, and following requests from shluchim who were not accepted to the class due to lack of space, registration for a second class is underway.

Lemaan Yilmedu: New In-Depth Course in Hilchos Shabbos

Lemaan Yilmedu brings a two-year course to enable you to rule proficiently on the complexities of Hilchos Shabbos. Taught by Los Angeles Rov Rabbi Yisrael Noach Raichik, an acclaimed expert in the topic, the course covers every aspect of Hilchos Shabbos with a focus on understanding the Tur and Beis Yosef and underlying rationale to render a Psak.

Many questions in Halacha can be brought to a Rov when a convenient opportunity arises, or one can pick up the phone and call a Rov. Shabbos, however, is unique: the question won’t be applicable by motzei Shabbos and you can’t call the Rov. In larger communities, you can find a Rov in Shul. But in smaller communities, where they may not be a qualified and experienced Rov, incorrect conclusions are reached by laymen and rabbis.

Finally, Lemaan Yilmedu has created a program to cover every aspect of Hilchos Shabbos with a focus on practical Halacha and psak, taught by Los Angeles Rov, Rabbi Yisrael Noach Raichik, a well-known expert in this field and co-author of an upcoming English sefer on Hilchos Shabbos.

The program will prove especially important to Shluchim who are often the only source of Halachic guidance in their communities, but most Shluchim have never had the opportunity to delve into Hilchos Shabbos in a way that would allow them to issue practical rulings.

Even in larger communities where there are other Rabbonim qualified to issue a psak, a Shliach may want the ability to be the address for all his community’s needs without making people have to shop around.

The course will go through all of Hilchos Shabbos in the Tur, Beis Yosef, Shulchan Aruch and the Nosei Kelim, with a focus on distilling the approach of the Alter Rebbe and later Chabad poskim.

Course applicants may be yungerlait, Shluchim, future Shluchim and anyone who needs this knowledge and is serious about studying the material.
