Witnessed the amazing Zakiyah Shaakir-Ansari honored by and the while surrounded by her beautiful family earlier this week at the the Broadway Advocacy Coalition’s Artivism Ball where art and activism intersect.
The incomparable Coleman Domingo was also honored for his work and I was seated next to the producer of Sing Sing who sought to center on those fighting for change both internal and external.
I also had the opportunity to speak to a number of talented and driven people that recognize the power of art in helping change the world.
Reminds me that likes to remind us that Harry Belafonte was fond of saying that his mentor Paul Robeson would say, “Artists are the radical voice of civilization”. still as relevant today as ever.
It’s an honor to be connected to that legacy

In the legacy of Kondiaronk, everyday is Indigenous Peoples Day.
Widely known as a brilliant intellectual, orator and tactician who gained his social stature through merit. Kondiaronk also offered a well known critique of European thinking after visiting Montreal, New York and Paris as chronicled in the book ‘Curious Dialogues with a Savage of Good Sense Who Has Travelled’ by the Frenchman known as Lohontan.
A senior statesman of the Wendat coalition in the late 1600’s, Kondiaronk (sometimes spelled with an ‘A’ as the 2nd letter) spent his last day ending the “Beaver Wars” and ushering in “The Great Peace” between the new French colony in Montreal and 39 First Nations of North America.
You can find much more about him In the book ‘The Dawn of Everything’ by the late David Graeber (frmr: professor of anthropology at the London School of Economics and renowned activist who helped make Occupy Wall Street an era-defining moment) and David Wengrow (professor of comparative archeology at University College London and visiting professor at NYU)

Special thanks to for hosting a night celebrating our partnership with where expertly moderated a panel with the incomparable Carmen Perez (), sneaker historian Sean Williams () and myself (.drazic)

We touched on the role of authenticity in advocating for justice and building partnerships, how design can serve the movement, and screened our collaborative video, produced by .

It was great to see old friends, young designers, sneakerheads and advocates engaged in thoughtful conversation.
