The Center for Urban Science + Progress (CUSP) co-organized the Mar Menor Living Lab — Mediterranean Futures Summer School with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Cyprus University of Technology, and Technological University Dublin, are bringing 28 students and researchers to Cartagena to develop solutions for coastal sustainability, pollution monitoring, and flood resilience at Europe's largest saltwater lagoon.

The Chair of the NYU Tandon Board, Scott Rechler, has been named to NYC's Business Advisory Council by Mayor Zohran Mamdani. This council consists of business leaders who will meet quarterly with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su to help shape the city’s next phase of economic growth and innovation.

Rechler attended NYU School of Professional Studies and went on to become Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of RXR — an innovative investor, developer, and place-maker committed to applying a customer and community-centered approach to all aspects of its business.

He is joined by fellow New York University alumni on this council, Keia Clarke, CEO of the New York Liberty, and Pat Wang, President and CEO of Healthfirst.

Assistant Professor Khalil Ramadi, whose lab develops ingestible devices including an LED capsule that stimulates gut neurons and a microbiome-sampling pill, commented on recent advances made in the field of ingestible sensors, explaining that the gut's harsh mechanical and chemical environment makes engineering these devices particularly difficult, and that the battery remains the single largest obstacle to further shrinking them.

Assistant Professor David Fouhey's lab co-developed Skelevision, an AI tool that photographs and precisely measures bird skeletons in about 45 seconds per specimen, enabling University of Michigan researchers to scan over 15,000 museum specimens and discover that songbirds evolved in rapid bursts that coincided with major climate shifts over the past 45 million years.

University of Michigan researchers have used an AI tool to demonstrate that birds in the group Passeriformes evolved in rapid evolutionary bursts and that these bursts frequently coincided with climate shifts throughout Earth's history.

NYU Tandon has launched the NYU Software Supply Chain Security Operations Center (NSOC), a new initiative in the NYU Center for Cybersecurity (CCS) whose centerpiece is a one-year program that embeds Tandon master’s students directly in the open-source communities that maintain critical software infrastructure.

"There is simply not enough security expertise, tooling, or guidance to tackle the scale of this problem," said Justin Cappos, professor at NYU Tandon and founder of NSOC, who has developed a collection of widely-used software supply chain security technologies including TUF, Uptane, gittuf, and in-toto. "The only way to actually close that gap is to train the people who can fill it, and to train them by putting them directly into the communities that need the help."

Cappos co-founded NSOC with Jiahao Yu, a professor at NYU Abu Dhabi focused on AI-driven vulnerability discovery, alongside external collaborators Andrew Nesbitt of ecosyste.ms and Vlad-Stefan Harbuz of the Software Stewardship Lab and Open Source Pledge.
