DID YOU KNOW?

A Veterinary Social Worker (VSW) is a licensed social worker who focuses on the emotional, psychological, and social issues that arise from the relationship between people and animals. Rather than providing medical treatment to animals, they support the people involved in animal care, including:

Pet owners coping with a pet's illness, injury, or death
Veterinarians and veterinary staff experiencing compassion fatigue, burnout, or grief
Families making difficult end-of-life decisions for their pets
Animal shelter workers and rescue organizations dealing with emotional stress and trauma
Individuals affected by animal abuse or neglect

Today was the launch of our inaugural cohort in our Saturday, in person, MSW program in Weslaco. An amazing group of students have signed up for this journey with three of our incredible faculty. Students will take three classes all on Saturdays, which is a full-time degree plan. They will complete their degree by next fall and graduate in December of 2027. Those who want to go a little faster can also take 1 or 2 classes during the week. The program is all in person in the mid valley region, so most students don't have to drive to either Edinburgh or Brownsville. We are excited about this new initiative and grateful to the students who signed up and are helping us build it. Our online program continues to grow, and our in person program is still here. Join us!
