Translation & Interpreting Programs at UTRGV

The Translation and Interpreting Programs (TIP) coordinate all the undergraduate and graduate translation and interpreting course offerings at UTRGV.

With a group of expert professors in the field from several locations in the world, we offer an online graduate program in Spanish Translation and Interpreting. We also offer an undergraduate minor and a BA Major in Spanish Translation and Interpreting, the first and largest in the State of Texas and one of the most comprehensive in the nation.

Assistant Professor of Spanish Translation and Interpreting (Tenure Track)

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is currently seeking applicants who are dedicated to serving UTRGV’s student body as an Assistant Professor of Translation and Interpreting beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year. The department seeks an energetic candidate to develop and teach translation and interpreting courses in the Spanish/English pair at the graduate and undergraduate levels, both in traditional and online environments. The selected applicant will support the development of the Translation & Interpreting programs, advise students, and serve on program and department committees as needed. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a solid research agenda in any area within Translation Studies.

Beginning October 1, 2026, federally certified court interpreters received a fee increase of approximately 9%, bringing the full-day rate to $617 and the half-day rate to $349.

The UTRGV Translation and Interpreting Office (T&IO) has recently hired Denysee A. Sandoval as a full-time translator.

Denysee graduated from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a BA in Spanish Translation and Interpreting, and she is currently pursuing a fully online MA in Spanish Translation and Interpreting at UTRGV.

We wish Denysee the best, and we are confident she will be a valuable addition to the office and the university community. 🤠🥳

The UTRGV Office for Bilingual Integration, led by Vice Provost Dr. Joy Esquierdo, celebrated HSI Week with students, faculty, and staff at the BMAIN Courtyard on the Brownsville campus. Participants also learned about the B3 Scholar Seal, a UTRGV distinction that recognizes students who develop bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate competencies through their coursework.

At this event, OBI was represented by Vice Provost Dr. Joy Esquierdo; OBI Assistant Director and Translation and Interpreting Liaison Mercedes Torres, M.A.; Director of the Translation and Interpreting Office Viridiana Zúñiga-Pelayo, M.A.; translators Daniel Muñoz, Denysee Sandoval, and Kathleen Cerda; and OBI student assistants Frida Lecona and Irma Lecona.
