It is with great regret that we must announce that TRiO @ Coastal will end October 2nd. Our program was not granted continued funding from the Department of Education. Staff will be on campus assisting participants up until October 2nd, but TRiO tutors will continue working in the TRiO Center. Tutor schedules will be posted and emailed as soon as they are formulated by the ATTIC. A BBQ for TRiO family is being planned, possibly scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd. More information will be available soon.

You are TRiO so you will continue to thrive in spite of obstacles put in your path. Please come by the TRiO Center to pick up your "goody bag" if you haven't already, and let's discuss a plan for you by utilizing other resources on campus.

We miss you already!

Great job, Dayon! Your TRiO family is so proud!

Class of 2023

Major: Pre-Nursing BSN

Hobbies: Reading and frequenting the beach

“Service-learning allows for students to step out of their comfort zone and to grow and communicate with others they typically wouldn't socialize with.”

- Dayon Brisco

"I have taught a service-learning course every year for the past 11 years, and while I have had a number of students who worked extremely hard on their service-learning projects each year, I have never had one who went so far above and beyond the requirements and my expectations as Dayon. At the beginning of the semester, when I first explained the service-learning component of the course, Dayon immediately began to investigate ways he could partner with another organization in our community. He spoke with the leaders of the Brunswick Job Corps, who were very supportive, and he proceeded to plan a program that would incorporate the book selected for the Big Read this year. In addition, he also incorporated into his project ways to encourage the students at Job Corp to pursue a college degree. Dayon also was the leader of our class project, a presentation for the college and the community entitled “Sealore.” He was the M.C. of this event held in the Stembler Theatre with over 35 people in attendance. Because of his organizational skills and commitment to this presentation, it was great success!

Dayon Bisco is the type of student that we, as service-learning professors, love to have in our classes. He displayed the initiative to come up on his own an outstanding project that culminated in acquiring a new partner for our annual Big Read program, and he was dependable in working hard to reach his goals for each of these projects. I knew from the start that I could rely on him to carry through with his ideas, and he was going to be successful, which was a very good feeling!”

- Rebecca Sharpe, Ed.D.

Hey, BIG email coming tomorrow to your Coastal inbox. Make sure to read it! LOTS of info coming!

Hello TRiO family! I hope if you’re reading this you’re doing well. WE MISS YOU!

Like you, we are waiting for all of this to be over so we can get back to our “normal.” Your TRiO family - staff, tutors, and student workers - are preparing for our new normal.

I hope all of you are checking your Coastal email because lots of important information is being sent this way. Coastal administrators are working hard to figure out how to move forward while making sure they consider all student concerns. Some of your questions have answers while others are still being worked out. Learning online may not be your preferred way of learning but you can do anything if you have an open mind.

Bottom line: BE PATIENT. We will get through this together ❤️

Be safe and be on the lookout for more information.

TRiO Day 2020! The College of Coastal Georgia’s TRiO and Rotaract Club joined forces and represented well! We planted a garden for The Well (a homeless resource center), put together “survival bags” for a domestic violence shelter, and straightened shelves and rearranged items at the Habitat for Humanity’s Restore store. We then enjoyed a BBQ lunch at Coffin Park. We packed a lot in 5 hours!!

Volunteering is always a good thing ❤️
