Happy October everyone!~
Our summer experience series continues this week with a post featuring our Vice President, Nadine Adnane who spent this summer on campus developing apps for the Microsoft HoloLens as part of the Virtual and Augmented Reality internship with Pearson Education.
“This summer I had the pleasure of working with the Microsoft HoloLens as part of Pearson’s “Education Initiative”, a program intended to explore the HoloLens’ potential as an educational tool. I spent the beginning of the internship brushing up on my Unity 3D skills and learning to configure the HoloLens for development. I also spent some time researching other virtual and augmented reality software and tools that could be used to enhance the classroom experience at Bryn Mawr.
One of my favorite parts of the internship was when my teammate and I had the opportunity to compete and present at HoloHack Philly 2017. Not only was HoloHack a lot of fun, but it also opened my eyes to the possibilities of virtual and augmented reality technology. It was also very exciting to present our research and progress at Bryn Mawr’s Digital Scholarship and Research event to students and faculty from other universities.
By the end of the internship, we had designed and created a fully functional augmented reality museum app entitled “HoloMuseum” which allows users to view and learn about sculptures of female figures from Greek mythology. We spent the end of the internship making final touches to the app and compiling resources to help future interns continue our work.
I was also honored to learn that our work has inspired a HoloLens Praxis course which will be offered during the Spring semester this year at Bryn Mawr. If you are interested working with the Hololens or mixed reality in general, be sure to check it out!"
