Before the first student walks into the classroom, the pencils are already sharpened.

Not because anyone requires it, but because teachers know that small moments matter. A forgotten pencil. A quiet check-in. A snack drawer for students who come to school hungry. The careful adjustment that helps one child feel safe enough to participate.

So much of teaching happens in these invisible moments of care, the ones that never appear in a lesson plan but shape whether students feel seen, supported, and ready to learn.

Our newest blog reflects on the emotional labor of teaching and the quiet ways educators create the conditions for learning every single day.

Summer offers educators something rare: a small shift in pace. A chance to step outside the urgency of the school year and reconnect with the ideas, creativity, and sense of purpose that first drew them to this work.

With that spirit in mind, registration is now open for our 6-Week Summer 2026 Online Semester, running July 6 – August 16.

This summer’s courses explore topics deeply connected to today’s classrooms, including Artificial Intelligence, Neurodiversity, Literacy, Multilingual Learners (ESOL), Arts Integration, Music Creation and Songwriting, Teaching the Holocaust, The Democratic Classroom, and many more opportunities for meaningful professional growth.

Designed for the realities of educators’ lives, our asynchronous online courses combine flexibility with thoughtful, authentic learning experiences led by experienced instructors who value reflection, curiosity, creativity, and practical insight. Participants earn 4.5 CEUs (45 contact hours) accepted by the Maine Department of Education (and many other states) toward recertification.

Summer professional learning can be more than checking a box. It can be an opportunity to rediscover inspiration, deepen your practice, and return to the classroom with renewed perspective and energy.

Thank you, always, for the care and dedication you bring to students and communities every day.

There’s a lot about teaching that can’t be measured.

It lives in small moments...
a student lingering after class,
a question that opens something up,
a day that didn’t go as planned, but you showed up again anyway.

Those moments don’t always feel like progress.
But they matter.

They’re often what students carry with them long after they’ve left your classroom
This week (and every week), we're saying thank you,
for the visible work, and the invisible work, too.

What does it feel like when professional development actually works?

For many educators, it’s not about the materials or the format, it’s about whether the learning connects to real classrooms, and whether there’s time to reflect, apply, and return to it.

In our latest blog, we look at what research says about effective professional learning and why structure and flexibility matter just as much as content.

If you’ve ever left a PD session wondering why it didn’t stick, this might resonate.

We ask educators to create belonging for students every day. But when adults in schools don’t experience that same sense of connection, it affects morale, retention, and the sustainability of good teaching.

In our latest blog, we explore what research tells us about adult school culture and how schools can move beyond individual “self-care” toward shared responsibility, trust, and meaningful connection.
