Honoring, Remembering, Advocating — Every Day

May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit+ individuals (MMIWG2S+/MMIP), also known as Red Dress Day in Canada.

Today, the UB Indigenous Student Collective student group tabled on campus to help raise awareness and honor Indigenous lives beyond just one day.

Last week, the Department of Indigenous Studies partnered with for a hands-on Cooking Workshop in our Food Sovereignty Kitchen.

Participants learned how to prepare a healthy, budget-friendly meal, cooked together, and shared the meal as a community.

NIEA is now accepting session proposals for the 57th Annual NIEA Convention & Trade Show in Buffalo, NY, October 7–10, 2026.

This year’s theme, Strength in Community: Building the Future Together, invites educators, leaders, and community experts to share research-informed and practice-based sessions that center Indigenous ways of knowing and support Native learners, families, and communities.

Proposals are welcome for:
• Convention Sessions
• Educator Day (PK–12)
• Student Day (grades 6–12)
