SPPS is pleased to announce a new partnership with Rochester Institute of Technology, providing qualified RIT students the opportunity to pursue a PharmD degree in pharmacy practice or MS in pharmaceutical sciences! 🥼

Through this collaborative academic pathway, two eligible RIT students each academic year will be assured an admissions interview for UB’s PharmD program and assured admission to the MS in pharmaceutical sciences program spaces each year, provided they meet all application and admissions requirements.

Reflecting on the new partnership, Gary Pollack, PhD, dean SPPS, affirmed, “The UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences values its relationship with RIT, and this agreement further strengthens our ties. We look forward to welcoming RIT’s talented and exceptional students into our PharmD and MS programs.”

The agreement builds on a longstanding relationship between the two institutions and continues a rich history of enrolling RIT students into UB’s programs, while establishing a seamless pathway for students to advance their education and careers in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. 🤝

We're pleased to announce that Joseph P. Balthasar, BS ’91, PhD ’96, has been named a SUNY Distinguished Professor, the highest academic rank in the SUNY - The State University of New York system.

The distinction is awarded to faculty whose work demonstrates extraordinary contributions to their field, evidenced by significant research that elevates the standards of scholarship within and beyond their discipline.

Balthasar, the David and Jane Chu Endowed Chair in Drug Discovery and Development, professor of pharmaceutical sciences, and director of the Center for Protein Therapeutics, focuses his research on the discovery of novel biological therapies for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases, driven by the development and application of physiologically-based, mechanistic pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic models. His work has led to multiple platform technologies and patent applications, contributing to FDA-approved treatments while helping drive innovation, foster industry collaboration and train the next generation of scientists.

“Designation as a SUNY Distinguished Professor is a tremendous honor,” Balthasar said. “I view this award as an acknowledgement of the innovative strategies pursued in my laboratory and, most importantly, as a form of recognition for the very hard work performed by my students, postdoctoral fellows, and staff.”
