From one of our undergraduate students, James Kottakis. Congratulations!

My paper titled “There and Back Again: Tiresias and the Autonomy of Gender Transformations in Ovid’s Metamorphoses” is going to be published in Astyanax Journal in September 2026. Astyanax Journal is a peer reviewed undergraduate Classics journal run by the University of Reading, and this will be its inaugural publication. I had the opportunity to present my paper earlier in the summer at the University of Reading’s “Launching Astyanax” academic conference in the UK. I am very grateful to the Classics department for providing the funding and support to pursue this academic achievement.

“Professor Stephen Dyson (1937-2026) was a scholar of many talents, with a passion for Roman history and archaeology, and the dissemination of knowledge to those who took his classes and worked alongside him. As we remember Professor Dyson and his impact on our department, an in memoriam has been set-up in the Goetz Library, displaying many of his published contributions to the Classical world. Students and faculty are welcome to sign-out any of these books with the hope that Prof. Dyson’s knowledge continues to shape our perspectives on the Roman world. ”
