Buffalo State's Social Work Department has the largest undergraduate social work program in the State University of New York. Social work majors focus on professional preparation, drawing from a required academic background in the liberal arts. Courses cover values and ethics, diversity, social and economic justice, and populations at risk. in Social Work assist the elderly, children, families, an

d people faced with disabilities, mental illnesses, and many different problems in living. Graduates also learn various ways to contribute to the development of social welfare policy. Our recent graduates are represented in a wide variety of practice fields at agencies such as Horizon Health Services, Case Western Reserve University, Community Action Organization, Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Transitional Services, AIDS Community Services, Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled, to name a few. The social welfare minor enables students who are majoring in other disciplines to understand the welfare system and the people it affects.

BestSelf’s TAY Overnight Drop-in Center is open from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am, creating a youth-friendly space with comfortable chairs, access to showers/laundry, a hot meal, and a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment. We’re looking for a strong, compassionate leader who understands the needs of transitional age youth—especially those experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance use—and can guide a team with confidence and care.

💵 Starting pay: $27.47/hour (Full-Time, 35 hrs/week)

In this leadership role, you’ll oversee daily operations of our Safe Space drop-in center while:
• Supervising and supporting TAY Support Specialists
• Creating a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment
• Coordinating staff schedules, trainings, and team meetings
• Supporting youth through service planning, advocacy, and crisis intervention
• Building strong relationships with community partners and resources

WNY Coalition for the Homeless to Host Major Job Fair for Homeless Services
BUFFALO, NY – The WNY Coalition for the Homeless is proud to announce a Homeless Services Job Fair aimed at connecting passionate individuals with rewarding careers in the human services sector. The event will take place on Monday May 18, 2026 at Gerard Place, located at 2515 Bailey Ave, Buffalo, NY 14215, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
With the homeless services sector experiencing a growing need for dedicated staff, this fair offers a unique opportunity for job seekers to meet with 20 to 40 different providers under one roof. The WNY Coalition for the Homeless, a robust network of over 50 human service agencies, is organizing the event to streamline the hiring process for essential roles that support the community’s most vulnerable members.
Participating agencies are looking to fill a wide variety of positions, including:
• Shelter Workers
• Case Managers
• Peer Specialists
• Customer Service Representatives (CSRs)
• Outreach and Housing Specialists
• Life Coaches
• Data Entry and Administrative Roles
"We are looking for driven, motivated individuals who want to make a tangible difference in Buffalo," said Marek P. Parker, the event's primary contact. "Whether you are a seasoned professional with case management experience or someone with a high school degree looking to start a career in human services, there is a place for you here."
Requirements for Attendees:
• A minimum of a High School degree (note: some specific agencies may require higher credentials).
• A valid driver’s license is required for all field work positions.
• Candidates should bring multiple copies of their updated resume.

Several of our students did poster presentations at the Student Research and Creativity Conference on Wednesday. Seniors presented about their field placements, juniors shared GIS maps of community resources in their neighborhoods, students in SWK 301 presented information about local poverty issues, and students in 485 presented their research on how the self-care events they facilitated for the campus community were beneficial. Congrats to everyone who presented and showcased the great research and applied learning they are engaged in!
