Campbell University Nursing The Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing is designed to provide students with the training and education necessary to enter the workforce as a RN.

The purpose of the Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing is to prepare each student for initial licensure as a registered nurse. The program provides a Christian environment in which to develop the knowledge, skills, and values deemed essential for safe, quality nursing care in a complex and changing environment. The program contributes to the mission of the university by educating students to becom

e caring, ethical, beginning care providers with interprofessional healthcare team skills. Campbell University will educate generalist nurses to practice in collaborative care settings with a focus on the needs of rural and underserved populations.

Congratulations to Parker Key (’26 BSN) recipient of the CWWSON DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This award honors the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day and recognizes a student who has provided compassionate care duringtheir clinical training and has demonstrated a commitment to extraordinary clinical skills resulting in a meaningful difference in the lives of many people.

Parker says “Being a part of the CU Nursing program has been my biggest academic achievement. Winning the DAISY award helped me appreciate how far I’ve come with all the opportunities given to me by God to help other people. I feel grateful to know that my clinical instructor nominated me for this award and recognized qualities in me that reflect its values.”

Parker is from Kings Mountain, NC and will be working at Carepartners Rehabilitation
Hospital in Asheville, NC.

Congratulations to Christopher Donovan (’26 BSN) recipient of the CWWSON Dr. Sandra L. Goins Duty, Honor and Integrity Award. This award is given to a student who possesses military experience or is a family member of a veteran. This student has endured the rigors of Nursing school while demonstratingunwavering support for his fellow students and has remained committed to his nursing education while overcoming challenges often faced by our Veterans.

Christopher says “What makes this award so meaningful to me is knowing that I was selected by the faculty and staff who have taught, mentored, and supported us throughout this program. These are people whose opinions and guidance I genuinely respect, so being recognized by them is incredibly touching. I will also miss the faculty mentorship and the supportive atmosphere that made Campbell feel personal and welcoming.”

One of our favorite moments during the graduation festivities was seeing senior nursing students Christine Becher, a member of the Army Nurse Corps ROTC, commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. She was sworn in by Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing alum First Lieutenant (Keylin) Jackson Medsurg Nurse (’24 BSN) and received her first salute from Andrew Lochrie a former Marine Corporal and fellow senior. Congratulations to Madison Allen (’26 BSN) recipient of the CWWSON Nursing Advocacy Award. This award recognizes the senior BSN student who possesses the ability to clinically reason through situations involving complex and challenging patient care, keeps patient well-being at the forefront of their care, always seeks opportunities to advocate on behalf of their patients, and never loses sight of the goal of achieving positive patient health outcomes.

Madison says “The Campbell Nursing program has prepared me not only academically, but also personally and professionally for my future as a nurse. Through long clinical days, challenging coursework, and meaningful patient experiences, I have grown into a more compassionate, confident, and resilient person. The faculty and staff continuously

Congratulations Abby Syster (’26 BSN) recipient of the CWWSON Allison Ann Baker Impact Award. This Award was created by Allison Baker’s mother and father (pictured with Abby) to recognize a graduating nursing student who shared a passion for mental health nursing and exhibited a unique ability to engage with mental health patients. A recipient
demonstrates a unique talent in caring for mental health patients and their compassion, calm demeanor, and sound judgement are evident in clinical settings. Abby says “I am incredibly grateful to receive the Allison Ann Baker Impact Award. As nurses, we constantly strive to have positive impacts in all patients’ lives, especially when physical illness is evident. However, patients with mental illness are often misunderstood and underserved. I have always felt passionate about bridging this gap in healthcare and it is an honor to be recognized for something that reflects such compassion and empathy.”

Congratulations to Cooper Wilson (’26 BSN) recipient of the CWWSON Dr. Nancy Duffy Leadership Award (Dr. Duffy was the founding Director of the Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing). This award recognizes the senior BSN student who exhibits qualities of a nurse leader, seeks to promote the common good, and demonstrates sound judgement. They must
be creative in their approach to patient care, open to opportunities to grow in their craft, and able to work constructively through the many challenges they face.

Cooper says “What touches my heart the most about the award I received was not going unnoticed. I did not lead or do anything for attention, so it was nice to know that I did at least make a little difference in the CU nursing program.”
Cooper is from Hendersonville, NC and has accepted a position in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at UNC Chapel Hill.
