Campbell orange has taken over the Nisbet Tennis Center following a recently completed resurfacing project made possible through President William Downs’ CampbellNOW initiative and support from the Campbell community

The project also came with a full-circle connection, as former Campbell tennis and soccer student-athlete Matt Magner ’00 returned to the Creek to help resurface the courts he once competed on

📍 Building a Culture of Career Readiness at Campbell University

We're making a strategic investment in student success: our newly launched centralized Career Services center, anchored by Christie Stafford (our new Coordinator of Career Services), held its first on-campus student job fair—and it was a success.

16 campus departments participated, with several hiring student workers for the first time. From pharmaceutical sciences to alumni engagement, students explored meaningful opportunities aligned with their career goals.

Key insight: Career readiness isn't an end-of-degree sprint—it's a four-year journey. Our framework helps students:
✓ Build professional networks early
✓ Gain hands-on experience through internships & employment
✓ Develop skills progressively across their campus experience

This initiative directly supports President William M. Downs' Strategic Plan to strengthen student success and professional development at Campbell.

Our motto says it best: "Our calling is to help you find yours."

Over 300 backpacks filled. 🎒 Over 300 kids who'll know someone cares. 💛

Our Teaching Scholars program rolled up their sleeves this week to pack nutritious meals for K-5 students across Harnett County Schools, addressing food insecurity one backpack at a time.

"It's such a great opportunity to take one small burden off the kids so they are able to focus on their learning," shared Campbell student Riley Parker.

This is what it looks like when a university and community come together: Teaching Scholars gaining real-world experience, future educators learning to support the whole child, and kids getting the meals they need.

Big thanks to our partners at the Ethan Nicholas Gonzales Foundation, Second Harvest Foods, the Coharie Indian Tribe, and all the community members who made this possible. 🙌

Dr. Barry Jones is dean of the Campbell University Divinity School and the Lewis E. and Martha Barnes Tyner Chair of Bible. A native of North Carolina and a graduate of Campbell University, he joined the Divinity School faculty in 2000. He previously taught at Mars Hill University in Mars Hill, NC, and before that, he was the pastor of Park View Baptist Church in Durham, NC. He teaches courses in Biblical Hebrew and in the prophetic and poetic literature of the Old Testament, as well as individual courses on the books of Exodus, Jeremiah, and Psalms. .

He served as the president of the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion in 2021-2022. He is an active member of the Society of Biblical Literature. He has served multiple terms on the steering committee of the Book of the Twelve Minor Prophets program unit for the SBL Annual Meeting.

An ordained minister, he has served as an interim pastor, preacher, and Bible study leader in numerous churches across NC. He is a member of the Healthy Transitions Group of the Center for Healthy Churches. He and his wife Beth (CU ’85,’88) live in Raleigh and have two adult children.
