🚨🚨 REPEAT! REPEAT! 🚨🚨

The University of Vermont Forestry Program is victorious in the Society of American Foresters (SAF) Quiz Bowl for the third time in four years!

The UVM Team, which is made up of Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources forestry students, brought the national championship home once again, beating out dozens of other schools in the competition.

The Quiz Bowl is a spirited competition among students at university and college forestry programs. For nearly 30 years, this annual event, taking place during the SAF National Convention, has brought together forestry programs from across the country as they battle head-to-head over forestry and natural resources questions for the almighty Quiz Bowl trophy.

Congratulations to the team: Captain Christian Baker and members Kevin Hankins, Lorry Martinez, and Tim Ostap. Enormous gratitude to Rubenstein School Forestry professors Tony D'Amato and Luben Dimov for their leadership and coaching.

SAB would like to invite you to our fifth annual CIDERBRATION!

At Ciderbration, we’ll celebrate the beginning of fall by enjoying some fresh apple c***r and apple c***r donuts (gluten and dairy free option available). So don’t forget to bring your own cup!

Along with our fall-themed treats, you can expect block and leaf printing as well as hacky sack! Rumor has it our hacky sack may or may not resemble an apple...I guess you’ll have to see!

Join us from 12:30-3pm Wednesday, October 14th on the Stafford Green to enjoy snacks, listen to music, get crafty, play games, and most importantly...get to hang out and have fun with the RSENR community!

This is a very special Weekly Disposal: one of the most beloved NR1010 labs of all time, Mount Mansfield!

Rubenstein School students in NR1010 visit Mount Mansfield every year to study the processes that shape forest structure and composition along an elevation gradient.
With a lift from the gondola at Stowe Mountain Resort, students can access the steep trail to the summit, exploring montane spruce-fir forests, alpine krummholtz, and alpine meadow natural communities.

Access to these montane forests allows students to directly explore the conditions that create these natural communities and better understand the adaptations of plant communities thriving in the alpine zone.

It's that time of year! UVM Weekend is just around the corner. We'd love to see you on campus at our events!

On Saturday, October 3, 9:45-11:00 AM, Dean Peter Newman will be giving a talk, "Protecting Natural Soundscapes in our National Parks." Guests are welcome to pick up a donut and coffee in the Aiken Solarium and explore the Aiken Center before Dean Newman's our research seminar in Aiken 102 at 10:00AM. On Sunday, October 4, 9:00-10:00 AM, please join Professor and Forestry Program Tony D'Amato for a Campus Tree Walk. Starting at the Aiken Center, participants will be treated to an educational walking tour of the UVM Campus and grounds, learn about the history of the forested landscape from the earliest days of campus to today, and pick up some tree ID tips along the way! Join the Rubenstein School, the Blittersdorf Foundation, and the Wellbeing Economy Alliance of Vermont on Tuesday, September 29 for a day of learning and collective action as we learn how to build resilient leaders across energy, health and the economy.

Participants in the Vermont Summit will create shared understanding about Vermont's current challenges in energy, health, and the economy, and help imagine what could come next. This event is free and open to the public.
