What an incredible day to be a Montana Tech Oredigger!

Montana Tech's Mining Engineering Department, represented by Chancellor Johnny MacLean, Professor Chris Roos, and Students Mike Shaw & Jordan Niggemyer, had the privilege of participating in roundtable discussions with the Department of Energy and Department of State about the future of America's mining industry.

In addition to these important conversations, we had the opportunity to witness an incredible milestone for the mining industry. The Trump Administration has announced $100M in grants available to the US Mining Schools to support the critical mineral industry.

The future looks bright for the mining industry, and even brighter for the students entering it. We are incredibly grateful, but the work is just getting started.

Our Women in Mining Student Chapter has been quite busy recently! We had 6 students attend the WiM USA Conference in Tucson, AZ in late April. Here they learned about topics such as: The Future of Innovation, Mental Health in the Workplace, Responsible Mine Design, and so much more! Upon their return, attendees gave brief presentations about their experiences, which sparked excellent discussion about next year’s conference in Billings, MT!

To close out the year and decompress from the finals week cramming, the group gathered together for a beading session led by Butte local Pam Neeley.

We are grateful for the help from industry professionals, the community, and advisor Sonya Rosenthal for keeping our chapter active and thriving!
