Thank you to Alisha Sedlmayr (NRCS) and William Kopp (Allamakee Soil and Water Conservation District) for coming out and demonstrating the importance of soil health to our students!

​They gave us a hands-on look at key soil health concepts by conducting a Slake Test and a Water Infiltration Test, followed by a grand finale using the rainfall simulator to show how different top covers protect the soil. It was an incredible way to see the direct impact of various management practices on the exact same soil type!

Thank you to Dave and Allie Wise and their families of Foresight Farms near Hesper, IA for hosting the Northeast Iowa Community College Agriculture students at their immaculate dairy. Home to 1100 cows with another 700 being milked with robots in Garnavillo, IA, and 180 calves on milk, this is one of the most respected farms in the Midwest. The students met to have lunch together at Barney’s in Burr Oak before the tour.

Thank you to South Winn Veternary clinic and Dr Cody Saquatine for a great herd health yesterday with Northeast Iowa Community College Agriculture students. The students learned proper dehorning procedures on our Holstein calves and also assisted with reproductive checks on the Dairy Center’s cows and heifers.
