IMPORTANT UDPATE!!!!

Out of an abundance of caution, we are making the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 Harvard Powwow. The safety of our head staff, volunteers, vendors, and attendees is our greatest priority. We look forward to gathering as a community again this school year— stay tuned for future programming and events.

The HUNAP Team would like to sincerely thank everyone who has put in countless hours and much energy to make our Powwow a success. Our head staff, volunteers, vendors, partners, the Harvard Community, Tribal Nations, and many more. These events only happen with great community and collaboration.

Amazing Powwow happening this weekend!!!

🚌 The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Elders Department is organizing a shuttle for Tribal Elders who would like to attend the Aquinnah Wampanoag Powwow on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The Powwow will be held September 12–13 at Aquinnah Circle in Aquinnah.
Elders interested in riding the shuttle are asked to contact Donald Peters, Elders Nutritionist, so the department can get a head count and plan transportation.

Elders who would like to attend are encouraged to reach out as soon as possible. 🪶

The Harvard University Native American Program (HUNAP), the Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability at Harvard University's Climate Accelerator, and the Harvard Kennedy School Project on Indigenous Governance and Development invite you to our Fall 2026 in-person speaker series centered on the critical intersections of Tribal Nations, climate change, and environmental justice. This series aims to elevate Indigenous knowledge systems, governance strategies, and community-led solutions that address the disproportionate impacts of environmental change on Native Nations. Through interdisciplinary dialogue, the series will highlight Tribal sovereignty, stewardship practices, and climate resilience efforts, while fostering meaningful engagement between Indigenous leaders, scholars, students, and the broader Harvard community. Grounded in the themes of Water, Land, and Animal Relatives, the series will provide space for critical reflection, knowledge exchange, and relationship-building, aligning with our commitment to Tribal diplomacy, community partnership, and academic excellence.

Honored that HUNAP was able to be a part of the Native American Heritage Night at Fenway, huge thanks to Native Native American LifeLines of Boston for coordinating this event. Awesome to have HUNAP represented by Executive Director Jordan Clark on the field and over 20 HUNAP Community Members in the stands!!!!

Harvard staff on THO’s team, shown in order: Audrey Jacob (Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma) a Peabody Museum NAGPRA coordinator; Erica Green (Hualapai Indian Tribe of the Hualapai Indian Reservation, Arizona), a Community Coordinator with Harvard University Native American Program; and Katherine Santos (Choctaw-Apache Tribe of Ebarb), the librarian for American Indigenous Studies at Harvard. THO will be playing Beaver Dam team.

Native American tribes have played stickball for centuries. Meet Audrey Jacob (center, in the red shirt), one of three Harvard staffers helping the Tvshka Homma Ohoyo (Lady Red Warriors or THO) team in the World Series of Stickball tournament this week.

Audrey (Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma) is one of the Peabody Museum’s NAGPRA coordinators. She says, "The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma will be represented across multiple divisions: 14-17, 18+men, 35+ men, 18+ women. Our women’s roster alone has 129 players listed.”

Joining the team this year are Erica Green on the left in a hat (Hualapai Indian Tribe of the Hualapai Indian Reservation, Arizona), a community coordinator with Harvard University Native American Program, and Katherine Santos on the right in a white shirt (Choctaw-Apache Tribe of Ebarb), the librarian for American Indigenous Studies at Harvard.

Amy brings more than two decades of experience in Indigenous governance and development and previously served as Director of Honoring Nations. We’re thrilled to have her leadership, knowledge, and deep engagement with Indian Country guiding the work ahead.
