A new approach to multilingual social science research: IQSS affiliates Andrea Nasuto, Stefano Iacus, and Devika Jain with coauthor Francisco Rowe present an open-source LLM framework that classifies immigration-related tweets across 13 languages, correcting for bias and supporting real-time analysis for billions of posts in their recent paper published in Nature.

Congratulations to IQSS affiliate Mahzarin Banaji, Richard Clarke Cabot Professor of Social Ethics in the Harvard Department of Psychology, who is among the honorees on the Andrew Carnegie Foundation's 2026 Class of Great Immigrants. Professor Banaji is recognized as a pioneer in the field of research into implicit bias.

For more than 20 years, the Andrew Carnegie Foundation has marked Independence Day by recognizing a group of naturalized U.S. citizens whose contributions have strengthened the nation. The 2026 class includes Harvard faculty members Mahzarin R. Banaji and Gregory Nagy.

Political discussions lately have focused on a deeply divided United States--but voters show surprisingly similar experiences across the aisle. IQSS affiliates and election experts Stephen Ansolabehere and Brian Schaffner found that adding one personal question to the Cooperative Election Study survey can add a new layer of understanding of current political views, and our assumptions about polarization.

The Dataverse Project team traveled to Europe this spring, to celebrate milestones and connect with the Dataverse community, now spread across 150 installations worldwide.

In Barcelona, the 2027 Dataverse Community Meeting led conversations around this year's theme, “Advancing Data and Dataverse: AI, Interoperability, and Sensitive Data,” along with general topics about the Dataverse platform.

In Riga, presentations and celebrations commemorated the first year of DataverseLV, Latvia's national open data repository.
