Did you know that the evolution of Latin and Hispanic heritage has transformed the way we celebrate our cultura in the United States? In 1968, Congress passed a law allowing the President to proclaim the week that includes September 15th and 16th as Hispanic Heritage Week, dedicated to celebrating the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. However, it wasn't until 1988, when Congress amended this law, that the President was officially authorized to establish Hispanic Heritage Month, extending from September 15th to October 15th each year. These dates were selected to coincide with the independence days of various Latin American countries, such as Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile.
