Central State University is partnering with local minority farmers in a $5 million grant to help ensure fruit and vegetables sustainability. 20 farmers are currently being selected from Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Want more details? Know someone who qualifies? Read more below.

Central State is currently looking to recruit 20 farmers from Ohio and Southeast Michigan to participate in the USDA funded program.

Farmer Veteran Coalition Ohio Chapter Small Ruminant Workshop at Wallace Family Boers

The Farmer Veteran Coalition Ohio Chapter is hosting a Small Ruminant Workshop for veteran farmers. Farmers will learn what you need to know about selling small ruminant products, small ruminant nutritional needs, internal parasite and FAMACH training, and with then tour a goat and hay farm.
The program will be held at Wallace Family Boers farm located at 3574 County Rd 660, Gibsonburg, OH 43431 on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm. The presenters include ODA Division of Meat Inspection Regional Veterinarian, Dr. Sherrie Nuttle; OSU Agriculture and Natural Resource Extension Educator, Brooks Warner; CSU Agriculture and Natural Resource Extension Educator, Nellie Rowland, and Bill Wallace, Farm owner and host.
The Farmer Veteran Coalition is about cultivating for the next generation of farmers/ ranchers and food leaders to strengthen communities around sustainable food systems.
The Small Ruminant Workshop is open to veteran farmers and beginning farmers interested in ruminant production, but space is limited to the first 30 registrants. Lunch will be provided. 📣 April is National Minority Health Month, a time to raise awareness about the health disparities that continue to affect racial and ethnic minority populations.

This month, let's take action to end these inequities. The foundation for National Minority Health Month was laid by educator, author, and civil rights leader Booker T. Washington, who, in 1915, established National Negro Health Week (NNHW). NNHW was recognized until 1951 and formed the basis for many of the health-focused observances we celebrate today.
In 2000, HHS launched Healthy People 2010 Visit Healthy People 2030 to learn about the latest iteration of the Healthy People framework.

Nearly 300 members of the community joined CSU in celebrating the historical April 8, solar eclipse at the Seed to Bloom Botanical Garden.
