Hi again, Amalia here!
We keep records of the bloom times of the plants here in the Extension Learning Farm's Pollinator Garden to provide realistic bloom times to gardeners in this area. Most resources that give information on the bloom times of plants are based in warmer, more mild climates, and might not be quite accurate up here in the North County. So, this little project is hoping to help with that!

Hi! I’m Amalia Kanitz, the SLU PIC Garden-to-Table intern at St. Lawrence County’s Cornell Cooperative Extension. It’s my last day on the job this summer, and I’m sad it’s over!
Here are some pictures from my work and adventures over the last two months.
My job was to help out with the Master Food Preservers and Master Gardener Volunteer programs, as well as some other practical stuff around the Learning Farm. I’ve met some of the awesome people involved in those programs, monitored the Pollinator Garden, transcribed recipes, weeded, planted, and harvested in the high tunnel, helped with the NorthWind Farm Day Camp-er’s Garden Week activities, and more! What I spent the most time on, though, was researching some of the native plants here in the Pollinator Garden and writing a series of articles about them for SLC Cornell's Fruition Local Foods blog - check it out if you get a chance!

Hi! My name is Sushma Aryal and I am the 2025 SLU PIC intern working with the Northern Area Health Education Center (NAHEC) this summer.

NAHEC's mission is all about growing and supporting the future healthcare workforce. As part of my internship, I helped run M.A.S.H. (Medical Academy of Science and Health) Camps, which are about giving middle and high school students a chance to explore different healthcare careers through fun, hands-on workshops. I also worked on the Institute for Career Advancement in Medicine (ICAM), researching and uploading free or low-cost healthcare career resources to help students, job seekers, and professionals access training, education, and career development opportunities.

Swipe through to check out what I have been part of this summer:

Slide 1: These first two photos are from the 2025 Health Workforce Annual Luncheon. I had the opportunity to attend and learn more about the people and programs working to build and support the healthcare workforce across the region.

Slide 2: From Malone M.A.S.H. Camp, workshops included Licensed Massage Therapy, Stop the Bleed, Nursing Simulation, and Occupational Therapy.

Slide 3: Malone M.A.S.H. Camp Dentistry Workshop.

Slide 4: Casting Workshop at Plattsburgh M.A.S.H. Camp.

Slide 5: Nursing Simulation at Plattsburgh.

Slide 6: Medic Training with the VT Army National Guard.

Slide 7: Emergency Department/EMT shadowing and Suturing + Family Medicine workshops at Plattsburgh.

This internship has been a great experience, and I am so thankful I had the opportunity to be part of such meaningful work!

Hello! I’m Charlotte, and I’m interning at the St Lawrence County Center for History and Culture in Canton this summer!
My main focus at the museum has been writing and researching posts for the museum’s social media, but I’ve also attended outreach events and done small tasks around the museum as they’ve come up. Writing for the social media and newsletter has allowed me to be very creative in choosing the subject matter while also doing historical research, which has been a perfect combination of two major things I enjoy. The great thing about post writing is that you can find almost always find an object in the collections to relate to whatever topic you’d like to write about.
I included some nice photos from around the museum in this post. The first photo includes the new pollinator garden, the second is of garlic drying in preparation for our fall bulb planting, and the last photo is of a small cat figure in the collections.

I’m Eileen, I’m going to be a junior in the fall, and I am the summer intern at United Helpers in Ogdensburg. I started the summer working on a fundraising event with the marketing team, but then shifted my focus to a project. I am creating a history exhibit for the company’s 127 years of service in supporting so many local communities. Cool cool stuff

Hello!! I am Jordyn, a rising senior and SLU pic intern working at North Country Children’s Museum! Some of my responsibilities involve taking photos for the social media page, playing with kids or working on marketing strategies. As an Anthropology and Art History major, I’ve found museum sciences to be very interesting and thus working at NCCM to be a very valuable experience. I am very excited for this upcoming school year and look forward to life after graduation!
