Coffee, tea, and chromatography

Students in Quantitative Analysis roasted Kenyan coffee beans to light (City) and dark (Full City) levels, then tested whether roast level makes a significant difference in caffeine content.

They also measured caffeine levels in some of Dr. Lutz’s favorite teas and became the first students to run samples on Dr. Lutz’s brand-new HPLC. Thanks, Dr. Lutz, for the new instrument and the opportunity for hands-on learning!

Chemistry never smelled so good!
