The Department of Child & Family Studies is excited to welcome Professor Miranda Pfeijda to our faculty!
Pfeijda started her collegiate studies at Illinois State University and earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science. Following her bachelor’s degree, Pfeijda focused her studies on Family Processes and earned her master’s degree. She then continued working towards earning her doctorate at the University of Kentucky.
Her scholarly expertise is in Family Life Education and Sexual Identity Development. With those specialties, Pfeijda has done extensive research and has published numerous articles in the Journal of Human Sciences and Extension, and the Journal of NEAFCS. Additionally, Pfeijda has a passion for teaching Family Life Education, and Contemporary Family Diversity.
Professor Pfeijda’s teaching philosophy focuses on developing students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills through experiential learning. Pfeijda believes these abilities are essential for future and current Family Science professionals so that they are equipped with knowledge on how to engage with new information, adapt to unexpected challenges, and succeed in the workforce not just in today’s age, but many years down their career.
One fun fact about Pfeijda is that she enjoys spending time outside with her wife and dog, as well as playing cozy video games, such as Stardew Valley.
Let’s give Professor Pfeijda a big warm SEMO welcome!
