Yesterday, June 23rd, the U.S. Army War College Department of Distance Education students and National Security Seminar guests overcame a rainy morning for an immersive staff ride to the historic Gettysburg battlefield. Walking on the hallowed grounds of Gettysburg, the seminars heard from War College experts on historical battlefield strategies, who described the weight of leadership under immense pressure, and learned that critical thinking skills are essential in warfare.

The U.S. Army War College National Security Seminar for Distance Education kicked off yesterday, June 22nd, with USAWC DEP students welcoming this year’s NSS guests. The opening day began with a presentation by 2014 USAWC grad. Gen. Xavier Brunson, Commander of United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and United States Forces Korea, setting a strong strategic foundation for the seminar for the next three days. Guests also had the opportunity to attend a noon-time lecture by Burt Tussing and later a briefing by Gettysburg expert Doug Douds. Today, June 23rd, NSS guests and students move from the seminar rooms to the battlefield, where they are guided through the historic grounds of the Gettysburg National Battlefield, analyzing timeless lessons in leadership, decision-making, and military strategy.

The Army War College congratulates 34 international senior leaders who recently graduated from its academic preparatory course. The course focuses heavily on graduate-level reading, critical thinking, research methodologies, and academic writing in a seminar setting. They will soon welcome the rest of USAWC's international fellows, who are beginning to arrive this week. Standing along with the international fellow graduates is (center left) Col. Brian Henderson, Director of the International Fellows Program, and (center right) Col. Donald Santillo, acting Commandant of the U.S. Army War College.

Friday, June 12, 34 international senior officer students from the U.S. Army War College International Fellows Academic Preparatory Course visited Dickinson College. The fellows were greeted by Dr. Lucy McInerney, Director of the Dickinson College Writing Center. McInerney invited the APC students to utilize the center for one-on-one writing assistance throughout the upcoming year. Dr. McInerney also facilitated an interactive discussion on the writing process, highlighting the value of personalized, in-person feedback over AI resources. The APC is a rigorous 9-week program designed to help International Fellows smoothly transition into the demanding U.S. academic environment. The course focuses on elevating graduate-level writing, research, and critical thinking skills, ensuring our international partners are fully prepared for success before the core academic year even begins.
