Qalam Seminary Developing Islamic thought & community leaders by means of education, practical training & mentorship

During Shaykh AbdulNasir’s Seminary Q&A, he answers a question about whether one’s tawbah is sincere when they repeatedly miss salah.

His response offers a powerful reminder: Never lose hope in Allah’s mercy. No matter how many times you struggle, keep returning to Allah in repentance and take sincere steps toward change.

During Shaykh AbdulNasir’s Seminary wide Q&A, he shares a story about Abdullah ibn Masʿud (RA) and the one time he felt envy toward another Companion, someone whom the Prophet ﷺ held especially dear.

The story offers a powerful reminder: Never feel inferior when seeking knowledge. Your circumstances or background should never hold you back from seeking knowledge.

During Shaykh Naviad Aziz’s visit with Year 1 and Year 2 students, he spoke about something essential: the difference between humility and humiliation.

Humility is strength—knowing who you are, staying grounded, not letting praise inflate your ego. Humiliation is weakness—diminishing yourself, accepting disrespect, losing your dignity. When people praise you, the Prophet ﷺ taught us to ask Allah: don’t hold me accountable for what they say, make me better than what they think, and forgive me for what they don’t know. It’s a powerful dua. It keeps you anchored.

As a student of knowledge, your work is finding that balance—carrying yourself with confidence and dignity, rooted in what you actually know and who you actually are, without sliding into arrogance. Humility without losing yourself. That’s the path.

To the Alimiyyah graduates: Your real work begins now. The people you’ll encounter aren’t looking for perfection or complicated answers. They’re looking for authenticity. They want to see that your faith actually matters to you. That you live what you teach. That you approach them with genuine care, not arrogance. Be honest about what you don’t know. That’s strength, not weakness.

And understand that serving your deen doesn’t always look formal or grand. It happens in conversations with family, in community spaces, in the quiet acts of showing up. Don’t fall into the trap of measuring yourself against other teachers or leaders. Your path is uniquely yours. Be present where Allah ﷻ has placed you, and give everything you have to that place. May Allah ﷻ make you successful in every position you are in. Ameen.

Not every achievement is meant to be an endpoint. A diploma, a certificate, a completed course, these milestones are not the destination. The real success is waking up each day knowing there’s still more to learn, more wisdom to seek, and more room to grow.
