Check out this recently installed food plot somewhere in the wilds of Granville County, NC.

This 25 yard wide plot will serve as a great viewing plot (just behind me in photo is the breakfast nook/living room of the landowner’s home). Having recently the timber stand behind the home will provide wildlife with the kind of cover and year round food they need to survive and feel safe when entering an opening as such.

Longer, narrower plots with feathered edges are often our plot design of choice as they feel safer entering the opening knowing escape cover is one or two bounds away!

Why continuously mow 2 acres of grass, when you can have a front yard wildlife attraction? This field has brought on countless hours of wildlife viewing for our landowner. Front porch viewing of everything from white-tailed deer, to turkey poults, to black bears, to now swarms of songbirds enjoying the sunflower seeds.

This field will next become a native wildflower meadow starting this fall! Stay tuned to watch this one progress or contact us if multi-purpose wildlife plots are something you’re interested in!

Since the timber market is a little pekid these days, let’s go back to the importance of when constructing run-off ponds. Both of these forebays were approximately 6 feet deep and empty at the end of February. Today they’re not empty. They’re also not 6 feet deep anymore either.

When constructing runoff ponds you can utilize stumps and other woody debris as a filter in your inlet areas. In conjunction with forebays, it’s a great way to filter sediment before it reaches the main body of water, leading to improved water quality and an overall healthier aquatic ecosystem.
