On Monday, 12 student ventures from our Small Business Management course took the stage in the inaugural Rising Tide Award Competition, pitching for seed funding and the chance to launch their ideas.

Our Introduction to Business and Supply Chain Management students have been hard at work this semester—researching, analyzing, and presenting the full value chain of a local product under $100.

From sourcing raw materials to delivering the final item into a customer’s hands, they traced every step of the journey. Their presentations showcased not only strong research and communication skills, but also a real understanding of the strategy, logistics, and problem-solving behind everyday products. We’re incredibly proud of their insight, creativity, and professionalism.

As you shop this holiday season, take a moment to imagine the many hands, decisions, and systems behind each item. Supply chains keep the world moving—and our students are learning how to make those systems smarter, stronger, and more efficient.

All of our MMA students have now wrapped up their final projects and exams, and we wish everyone safe travels and a peaceful, well-earned winter break.

⚓ Look who we found at the Career Fair!

Professor Kate Kana, retired Professor Alaina Scheuchzer, and Graduate Enrollment Specialist Beth Sims were thrilled to reconnect with recent MMA graduates—now representing Dennis Food Service, Sappi Paper, Cianbro, and Continental Tide—and to welcome one of our online graduate students from Rhode Island, who made the trip north and said it was well worth the drive!

These alumni, many in their first professional roles, are already making an impact as Logistics Coordinators, Operations and Supply Chain Specialists, Maritime Project Leads, and Human Resource Professionals. Their success highlights how an MMA education opens doors to careers across the maritime industry and beyond.

Events like this showcase the strength of our Mariner network—where alumni, students, and faculty come together to share opportunities, celebrate achievements, and inspire future success.

Yesterday’s Graduate Program Facts & Snacks event at The Waypoint was an incredible success—so many students stopped by to enjoy conversation, hot apple cider, and donut holes (a big shoutout to the fabulous Sodexo crew who kept refilling as we ran out again and again!). 🍩☕

We had some fantastic discussions, and students shared amazing insights about the value and impact of pursuing graduate studies in maritime management:

Bridging Tech and Logistics at Maine Maritime Academy

A big thank you to Justin O'Connor and Aditya Jain, founders of Infracodebase, for joining our Logistics Information Systems course in the Masters in Maritime Management degree program!

They shared their inspiring journey as startup founders in the tech world and brought to life complex ideas about infrastructure deployment in the cloud—breaking them down into clear, accessible examples we could all connect with. Their demo was not only impressive but also eye-opening, offering lessons we can carry into both logistics and leadership.

We truly enjoyed the session and are grateful for the real-world perspective they brought to our classroom.
