Thank you so much to everyone who got involved this year with our 2026 Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities. We started off strong by showing support for sexual assault survivors on SAAM Day of Action. Then, we partnered with survivors of sexual assault to challenged harmful misconceptions about sexual assault and clothing with our annual “What Were You Wearing?” exhibit. After that, we welcomed Dr. Matthew Vasquez to present over the impacts of trauma and provided an afternoon of tips and insights for navigating trauma. Lastly, we finished off strong this month with Denim Day and gave out free cupcakes to anyone who was wearing denim and showing support for sexual assault survivors.

We are so appreciative that our office can facilitate projects like Sexual Assault Awareness Month and we couldn’t do it without the support of the UNI community. Our office wanted to extend a message of gratitude to all students, staff, and faculty that help us support survivors of sexual assault and spread awareness about the topic.

Join our office on April 29th to support survivors of sexual assault and bring awareness to sexual violence prevention. To wrap up our SAAM activities OCRC will be tabling in the Union from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm on Wednesday to recognize Denim Day. Denim Day is an internationally recognized day of sexual violence awareness originating from Italy in the 90s. To highlight this day of sexual assault prevention our office will be handing out cupcakes to anyone who is wearing and giving out free SAAM swag items. Cupcakes are while supplies last, so first to arrive will be the first to be served.
