💜 Ever wondered how the iconic Interlude dance started at the University of Northern Iowa?

What began as a simple arm movement to the song “Interlude” by Attack Attack! between friends — Tyler Wright, Ian Goldsmith and Scott Connerley — grew into a tradition that has spread across campuses, around the world and even reached the First Lady of the United States.

Today, the Interlude remains a beloved part of the Panther experience at athletics events, Panther Welcome and Homecoming.

You are welcome to return to the contract as often as you wish to see if other spaces open up and make a room change until that date. Anyone wishing to change rooms after May 1, 2026 should put their name on a waitlist within the housing portal for any available room change opportunities.

Students who complete their contract on (or before) their room selection day will get a special surprise!

A selected room is not considered reserved until the terms and conditions have been agreed to and the contract is finalized. Rooms will be released on incomplete contracts within 48 hours of selecting the space. If you are pulled in as a roommate, you will need to log into your housing contract portal to also complete your contract by selecting a meal plan (if applicable) and agreeing to the terms and conditions.

We offer waitlists for spaces in each dorm. Waitlist space is granted on a first come, first served basis. Waitlists are reserved for individuals, not roommate groups. If you’re only interested in moving along with your roommate, you can indicate such on the waitlist form; however, the larger your roommate group is the less likely we can accommodate. Waitlists open once you select a room and have a completed contract.

This is because many of our students will select their same spaces or be pulled in as a roommate during the Same Room/Roommate steps. Please plan accordingly as it pertains to coordinating roommate groupings.

For next year, only first-year students will be eligible to live in Hagemann; which means it will not be an available option to current students during contract renewal. Rider will also remain a first-year only dorm. And Lawther will be open to all students (including first-year).

Trailside Apartments will be offered as part of the contract renewal process this year, just like the rest of the dorms....
