Day two of COP30! Today Conner and Kit traveled together for several sessions talking about oceans, disinformation, birds, and a youth climate forum. Day One of COP30! Conner and Kit entered the Blue Zone for the first time and quickly got to work exploring the massive venue.. and quickly getting lost. Many areas are still under construction, which means it’s hard to orientate yourself on the map. Despite the setbacks, they attended several different panels, learning from leaders about the tipping points of climate change and hearing from the president of the COP give the opening ceremony. Conner Cavey and Kit Lason have been selected by the Christian Climate Observer’s Program to attend the annual UN Climate Conference located in Belém, Brazil. The past three days have been spent traveling and once in Brazil, getting checked into the conference. Stay tuned for many updates!

Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would reply, ‘A la sainte terre,’ ‘To the Holy Land.’ And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not ‘hike’ through them.”

Soil sampling today to determine soil bulk density under and between solar panels installed 10 years ago. This will contribute to an ongoing study that will partition soil respiration contribution among plants, bacteria , and fungi using the substrate-induced-respiration-inhibition (SIRIN) method at this location. SCIENCE!
