Today, the Brothers of Alpha Mu Nu proudly recognize and salute Bro. Fred Butler, Upsilon Psi ’77, Florida A&M University, a Brother whose years of service, leadership, commitment, and dedication to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. represent the very essence of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift.
Bro. Butler holds a special place in the history of Alpha Mu Nu as a Charter Member and the chapter’s First Basileus. Being first is about far more than holding an office. It means accepting the responsibility of helping establish a foundation, setting expectations, developing a culture, and helping create a vision that future generations of Brothers can continue to build upon.
His service to Omega has never been confined to one position, one chapter, or one moment in time. Bro. Butler has continued answering the call of the Fraternity and currently serves as both Keeper of Records and Seal and as Basileus of Omega Xi Chapter, demonstrating the sustained commitment to Omega that deserves recognition and celebration.
His record of leadership in the region stretches back many years. Historical chapter correspondence from 2013 documents Bro. Butler’s involvement in organizing and chartering a graduate chapter in Monroe County and notes that his work on the charter application received special recognition at the District level. That same record identifies him as one of the chapter's founders and as its charter Basileus, further demonstrating his longstanding dedication to expanding and strengthening Omega.
Bro. Butler’s Omega journey is a reminder that leadership is not simply about being elected to an office. Leadership is about leaving something stronger than you found it. It is about creating opportunities for Brothers to reconnect with the Fraternity, mentoring those who come behind you, maintaining the standards of Omega, and continuing to serve when there is work to be done.
