University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign staff attended the 2026 NAFSA Association of International Educators annual conference where the university was recognized as one of five U.S. institutions to receive the 2026 Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization.

Illinois has won the Comprehensive Award twice (2008, 2026) and the Spotlight Award once (2025) for the IGlobal Program in the College of Education. Illinois is the only institution to have achieved this combination of awards over time.

Thank you to all our colleagues who joined us to celebrate this incredible honor (Gies College of Business, The Grainger College of Engineering, Liberal Arts & Sciences at Illinois, Global Education and Training, and University of Illinois International Student and Scholar Services).

Thank you to Prof. Joyce Yen Feng for sharing your insight and expertise with us at the 2026 Sheth Distinguished Alumni Lecture on April 28 💙

After earning her master’s degree (1981) and PhD (1988) from the University of Illinois School of Social Work, Prof. Feng went on to become a visionary leader in social welfare and social innovation in Taiwan.

During the lecture, she reflected on her time as a minister without portfolio in Taiwan’s Executive Yuan (2013–2016), sharing:

“I mobilized all my potential, knowledge, and networks…to try to transform the social welfare system in Taiwan. And I think I did a little bit of good work in those three years.”

That “little bit of good work” is truly an understatement. Prof. Feng is widely recognized as the “Mother of Social Enterprise” in Taiwan, and her impact continues to inspire change-makers around the world.

We’re grateful for her generosity, insight, and leadership—and for taking the time to share her journey with our community.
