We spoke to Aiden today who is studying both electrical and HVAC at the Mitchell Career & Technology Center in Chanute....

How do you like your program?

'No complaints at all, it's going really well and I'm enjoying it. I'm doing HVAC and Electrical, so it's a pretty full schedule. I have also applied for a job, so I should hear back about it today. I like that college is a less restrictive environment. Like if you need to go out to your truck or something, you're an adult, so you can. There's a bit more freedom.'

Any advice for this year's seniors?

'Definitely keep an eye on your grades and do your homework. If you've been slacking... it's time to kick into gear. Also look into careers now, don't wait until you graduate. Start thinking about what career you want NOW. If that's HVAC, electrical, or plumbing? They have really good programs here. HVAC and electrical go hand in hand... I've done installations, but I think I want to specialize in maintenance.'

Why should seniors apply for Humboldt Promise?

It's basically a free ride for college. If you don't want more schooling, I still recommend at least getting The Promise because you have 2 years after graduation to enroll if you change your mind. You'll be helping the community and helping yourself!'

Today we caught up with Avion who is studying Computer Science at Neosho County Community College.

How are you enjoying your program so far?

'It's really good, I like all my classes and the teachers are so helpful. My classes are interesting and not too difficult.'

What advice does Avion have for this year's seniors?

'Definitely get The Humboldt Promise because it's really helpful to get that extra money, for sure. For school work, always try to do better. Turn in assignments on time and keep up with assignments to get your grades as good as they can be'.

Yesterday, Congressman Derek Schmidt visited Neosho County Community College to tour the campus. During his visit, he had the opportunity to see our facilities firsthand and learn more about the college’s current initiatives, as well as new and upcoming projects that will support our students and community.

🏆 Volunteer Group of the Year!

On Thursday, Aug. 20, NCCC Athletics was honored as the 2025 Volunteer Group of the Year by Main Street Chanute! 🐾🧡

Across all sports, NCCC student athletes contributed an incredible 6,436 hours of community service, an average of 26 hours per athlete, during the 2025-2026 season. Their commitment to giving back and serving the Main Street Chanute organization and the Neosho County community as a whole is something to celebrate!

President of NCCC, Dr. Brian Inbody, accepted the award on behalf of NCCC Athletics. Congratulations to our student athletes and coaches on this well-deserved recognition! 👏
