Hello, everyone! My name is Dean, and I'm a junior majoring in Health Policy and Management with minors in Chemistry and Biology. I primarily tutor Chemistry, Biology, and Math. I love helping students navigate these STEM/pre-med courses because they can feel daunting, even with all the right tools! When I’m not tutoring, you can find me running around campus to get kudos on Strava :) I'm excited to meet some of you in the Learning Center!

“When I started at UNC, I was desperate to find a way to keep myself organized. I created The Life Plan, a 20 page document that is eternally open on my computer, and is my holy grail of college planning. For this blog, I’m going to go through how I created the course planning section of The Life Plan, and how I’ve applied that planning to class registration.”

Some assignments may ask you to use written work as a source for a writing assignment, but where do you begin? 🤔

Before diving into a reading, what can you find out? Sometimes the title, cover, or even genre can provide valuable information! What do you know about the author, and why might they have written this work? Why do you think your instructor assigned it?

As you read, try to take notes of your reactions and questions. What is missing, confusing, or surprising? Share your thoughts with a friend who is reading the work too!

Once you’ve finished reading, take 20 minutes to react to the reading as whole. Reread your assignment. What ideas are coming to you? Now you can plan your schedule for writing your paper.

Hi, my name is Katherine and I am a rising undergraduate senior. I am a Peer Tutor at the Learning Center. My favorite thing about being a Peer Tutor is having the opportunity to bridge my love for chemistry and my love for connecting with people on campus. It means a lot to me to be a part of anyone's academic journey, especially when it comes to hard classes. Something about me is that in my free time, I enjoy jigsaw puzzles, painting, and diamond art.
