Hi everyone! My name is Julianne Reynolds and I am a Peer Tutor here at the Learning Center. I'm a rising senior from Chapel Hill majoring in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Medical Anthropology. I primarily tutor chemistry courses and I love my job because I get to see students grow in confidence and develop skills that they can use beyond our sessions! Outside of tutoring, I enjoy going on runs, listening to live music, and trying new restaurants around Chapel Hill. I look forward to seeing you at the Learning Center!⁠

Summer is in full swing here at the Writing and Learning Center! Academic coaching, peer tutoring, and writing coaching services are up and running to help you do your best this summer session! Hi! I’m Lily, a senior majoring in Economics and Political Science. I tutor a variety of economics, math, and German courses here at the Learning Center. My favorite subject to tutor is economics, and I love connecting with other students while helping them build confidence and succeed in their classes! Outside of tutoring, I enjoy practicing yoga, reading, and playing field hockey.⁠

Taking breaks during studying is a common strategy to reduce mental fatigue, but not all breaks are created equal! It may temporarily feel good to scroll on your phone for a few minutes in-between assignments, but this is actually far less effective than taking a walk, meditating, or socializing because it still requires decision making that overloads the prefrontal cortex. 🧠⁠

Effective breaks give you distance from work-related thoughts and leave you feeling more refreshed. Even breaks as short as a minute, if they are effective breaks, can improve your performance and productivity when you return to what you were working on! 💪⁠
