Consistent with the University’s collaborative and interdisciplinary culture, the Institute of Politics strives to unite students, academics, and political leaders from a wide spectrum of disciplines and ideologies. Furthermore, the Institute is dedicated to bridging the gap between the academic and political spheres through programming designed to foster engaging and productive dialogue between t
he two. Student Programs: The Institute supports four student-led programs.
1. Carolina Political Review: The Carolina Political Review (CPR) is a biannual, nonpartisan political journal, engaging the University and the local community through a dynamic online platform managed solely by undergraduate students.
2. Tech Team: Tech Team provides digital support to Triangle area community organizations and state and local government offices. They also run hands-on, instructive workshops on campus focusing on the intersection between tech and politics.
3. Speaker Series: The Speaker Series provides a forum for leaders in politics, government, business, labor and the media to share their experiences and insights on today’s most pressing issues. Activities range from larger, on-the-record events to more intimate, off-the-record sessions.
4. Civics in the Triangle: Civics in the Triangle places motivated undergraduates in classrooms throughout the Triangle region, teaching civics and government classes to inspire students to
immerse themselves in their local communities and grow into active participants in our democracy. Fellows Program: The Fellows Program provides an invaluable chance for students to learn from some of the most notable political practitioners, academics, and journalists in an informal setting. Political practitioners will immerse themselves in the Carolina community - interacting with students and leading a not-for-credit study group. The Institute hosted two Visiting Fellows in Fall 2017 and will host two Visiting Fellows in Spring 2018. Summer in Washington Program: The Institute collaborates with peer institutes at Harvard University, the University of Chicago, and Georgetown University to offer career-oriented roundtables with prominent political practitioners to Carolina students pursuing internships in Washington D.C.
