I am pleased to announce that the Kenan-Flagler real estate team that competed in the UNC Development Challenge case competition last Friday was victorious! We are extremely proud of the team, which consisted of Tom Burkert, Ed Johnson, Caitlin Leary and Jordan Rathlev. Their presentation regarding the site plan and financial analysis of development on a large site at the Walt Disney World Resort was deemed to be the best among twelve teams that competed. In the seven years that we have held the competition here at UNC, our team has now won twice. Other finalists included teams from UCLA, Columbia Business School and the Fuqua School from dook

Word in the street is that the UNC team won the UNC RE case competition yesterday. Will try to confirm. If true, we swept victories in both the Texas and UNC competitions this year! ........And the way to celebrate? This year's GIE is to Panama and Cuba!

Great times yesterday at the UNC Real Estate Conference in Chapel Hill! We generated a lot of good buzz about the Alumni Club and Mentorship Program at the meeting. Let's capitalize on the momentum and get some regional activities going!

Tomorrow we descend into Chapel Hill for the 2012 UNC Real Estate Conference! It will be great to catch up with friends and colleagues who share a connection with the real estate program at KFBS. In advance, I would like to reflect on all that we've accomplished over the last 6 months since we kicked off both the UNC Real Estate Alumni Club (REAC) and the Mentorship Program and what we'd like to do in 2012. You will here more about this at the conference tomorrow. Go Tar Heels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since our first REAC event in October 2011, we've held several events across all of our chapter locations. Past events include: (1) Reunion weekend social in Chapel Hill, (2) Alumni mixer in NYC, (3) Speaker series in Atlanta, (4) ULI reception in LA, (5) Cocktail hour in Charlotte, (6) UNC vs. Va Tech game watching event in Washington DC, (7) Cocktail hour in Atlanta and (8) Washington DC

We've kicked off two mentoring programs
(1) MBAs mentoring undergrads: Launched in Nov 2011 with 13 mentor/mentee pairs
(2) UNC Alumni mentoring MBAs: Launched in Jan 2012 with 32 mentor/mentee pairs

Here are our 2012 Goals:
(1) Host additional alumni events in all regions
(2) Create a presence at industry conferences to raise awareness of the real estate program
(3) Continue to build the mentorship program, getting more involvement out of alumni, MBAs and undergrads
