Our mission is to provide outstanding emergency care through excellence in clinical care, education, and research, in an environment of inclusion for persons from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and abilities. We have 12 residents per year who staff the 70,000 patient-per-year and level 1 trauma center UNC Hospital Emergency Department in Chapel Hill. Our residents also spend 30% of their clinical
time at WakeMed in Raleigh, NC, which sees over 75,000 adults and 45,000 pediatric patients yearly, the highest volume emergency department in the Chapel Hill-Durham-Raleigh region. We are innovators in the use of medical simulation, ultrasound, international health, and pediatric training, and we emphasize experience in both community and academic settings to optimally prepare each graduate for leadership in whichever career in Emergency Medicine they chose to pursue. We aim to train the next generation of Emergency Medicine leaders. Headed by Program Director Dr. Nikki Binz; co-led by Associate/Assistant Program Directors Drs. Gary Burke, Maglin Halsey-Nichols, Collyn Murray, Graham Snyder, and Craig Frater.
