These days are long. But it’s moments like this when I know I’m doing exactly what God intended.
A week or so ago, a client/mom- now turned friend reached out to me. She was understandably stressed.
Early move in situations have been a long time stressor in the Greek community at Clemson. “Will they allow early move in?” “Can I crash on your couch?”. These are things that I hear from the kids constantly.
When she told me her daughter’s living arrangements fell through for “work week” and she was stressing about finding a place, without hesitation I said “She can stay with my family.” I meant it with everything I had in me too. Because when you’re thousands of miles away you Hope that someone is looking out for your baby. And I knew as a mom that I wouldn’t be able to handle the stress of not knowing where my child was staying. So I took that burden away from her. I opened up my home, my family, our chaos. It turned into one of the biggest blessings of the year. Within just a day she fit right in. Laughing, sharing stories about her family, Greek life, meals together. It was something even my boys enjoyed. She hopped right on the roller coaster and joined us for the ride! Playing video games with the boys, playing with the dogs. And quickly we all bonded.
It’s been a chaotic week, a hard week, but also a rewarding one. When you feel like you’re failing, just know that you aren’t. You are exactly where you’re meant to be. Sometimes the negativity can cloud that, or the thoughts of “am I doing the right thing?”
These past few days have tested me in ways I don’t think I’ve been tested before. Running on an average of 3 hours of sleep a night, and making sure everything is in line for the next day. Coming home to flowers from that Momma felt like the “hug” I didn’t know I needed. I like to think of it as a God wink. The note accompanying the flowers filled my heart with joy and appreciation for what we’ve built. And knowing that sometimes gifts don’t come wrapped in pretty paper. But they turn out to be the best ones you’ll receive.
That’s been this week.
Freshman move in starts tomorrow. CU soon!
